He will NEVER be on the level of Howard. Even if Howard went and committed a school shooting he'd still be more revered than Opie.

As bad as Howard has gotten, Opie should never be brought up in comparison. Opie is a morning zoo hack who hit the lottery. He couldnt read and comprehend a book let alone write one.

Stern gave good interviews & was capable of understanding humor.
Don't put Opie on that level.

Pretty sure neither of Stern's wives were ass-fucked by Bam.
OH!

That OH gave it a real dice feel to it.
"Lindsay had a little Bam.... OH!!!"

I put on Sterns latest show over the weekend and still his show is 1000% better then O&J. Actually does bits, has segments. Opie just follows talking points and the last real bit i recall was maybe 8 months ago when that intern stayed in a hotel with Di.

Sterns show is very formulaic, which allows it to be entertaining while putting as little effort in as possible. Howard doesn't really have a whole lot to do with his show anymore. But what his show is now, he really has it down to an art. Things usually don't get boring because the schedule of the show itself moves it along.
O&A's main strength was that it was completely off the cuff. Opie would bring things up and Jim and Ant would ruthlessly rip them apart. The show was obviously unrehearsed and that was it's brilliance. How can two guys be that funny at 6am off the top of their heads? And while they didn't have the structure that stopped Stern segments from becoming stale, they had Opie "moving things along" Sometimes way too soon, but the vast most of the time it worked.
O&J is trying to do the same thing now, but without Ant in there, it all completely unravels when Opie tries to get involved with the jokes or it's Jim riffing with the wind, which he can't really do on his own and it ends up stalling. Jim isn't great at coming up with ideas on his own, but he's one of, if not the best when given material on a whim. He'd have been a great writer on something like MST3K or would be a good guy to have in a writing room when you need a joke, but he's not a writer himself. Which is fine. He'd be perfect on Stern in the Jackie/Artie role and would be awesome as the wild card of a show that depends a whole lot on formula. The role he's playing now on O&J does the least with what Jim can so and is probably the worst role he could have outside of solo host. Jim also can't hide his emotions very well, so as time goes on with O&J he starts sounding as enthusiastic as an exhausted POW telling a camera he's being treated well by his captors. Which is a bummer.

In other ways too. Op & Ant are separately experiencing the same issue as Howie did years ago - at this point where are the new listeners coming from? Which is why Ant's comparison of his podcast to the earlier WNEW days is silly. Howie dealt with that in a way neither of them can, which was getting a more mainstream and middle of the road spotlight (eg. America's Got Talent).

Opie never had a tv show. Opie never wrote a book. Opie never starred in a movie about his own life. Opie never was a judge on a popular shitty tv talent show. Opie never made good radio.

My God, could you imagine how bad an Opie book would be? The contradictions alone would be maddening.

Can't even get through one episode of his radio show without maddening contradictions.
