Has Opie ever told a story about his life that wasn't fabricated?

I mean this sincerely. In 20 years of the show, is there one example of this?

I believe he really pooped on the beach that time. I don't know why, but I believe him.

Absolutely this. If there was ever a story that screamed "Real" it was the riveting account of how a 50 year old man shat on a beach.

I also believe he pissed on his sock.

I also believe he pissed on his sock.

I remember hearing the sock-wiping story and thinking, "This guy has done way grosser shit and is just throwing this out there to test the waters."

If everyone was like "Aw that's nothing" he would have admitted something even grosser.

I don't know why, but the piss wipe with the sock is fucking revolting.

he has a history of habitually talking about his disgusting, autistically poor hygiene habits and then pausing for bro applause. rofl

I believe some of the stories of his childhood, specifically the stories about having off-brand food and a crappy car in high school.

But the problem with that story is he mistakes those things for indicators of poverty, when that's called being middle class. Probably upper middle class. Poor people don't have their parents buy them cars in high school. Shit, most middle class people don't have their parents buy them cars in high school--even crappy old cars. What an entitled douche.

He worked as a caddy so he was always comparing himself to the kids at the country club he worked at. To this day he thinks he is poor because he is around people that have more money than him. This makes him not only think that he is a poor piece of shit, but anyone who has less than him is a worthless piece of shit. Opie's mindset is that he is a common hard working family man because Howard makes so much more than he does.

he was always comparing himself to the kids at the country club he worked at.

Shit, I never actually thought of it like that before. Of course he felt poor next to a bunch of rich kids. He's literally always been this dumb. He can't see the difference between poor compared to millionaire's kids and actually poor.

He has no idea how to compare and contrast situations with any sense of logic. He thinks he is poor because someone else is rich.

I grew up eating plenty of off-brand food. My first car was a 1974 Dart. It was not one of the cool ones, my dad got it for $500. This was around 2004. My second vehicle I bought myself. We were not poor. We were middle class.

I knew the poor kids and they didn't have shit. And that would be a small family. Opie was one of 16 or something like that. I'd say they were fairly well off if any of them had cars.

I think you are underestimating how poor he actually was. He had to eat Pepperidge Farm bread for Christ's sake.

I think some of those "poverty" stories are somewhat rooted in truth - at least moreso than everything else he talks about. But I also think they're blown way out of proportion because, like roller-blading, Opie mistakenly thinks it's "cool" to grow up poor.

That story about his brother has got to be true. Traveled to a different state asked strangers where his brother is they point to an rv and he was sleeping under it

Oh yeah I forgot about that one, that one's definitely true.

How could you put your lunch in a cement bag? Wouldn't it still be dusty with cement powder? That one really never made sense to me.

I used to catch myself fabricating parts of stories occasionally. If I was around people and uncomfortable, sometimes I'd start telling a story that was true but I'd add in some details that I was totally making up on the go. It just happens; the story is telling itself and i was just along for the ride.

On some level I can understand why he does that. And after telling a made up story so many times I'm sure Opie has it in his head that those events really happened.

I'm giving the Opester a pass on this one.

That one has to be true because it's so relatable. I mean, who doesn't have tons of empty cement bags laying around? Seems just natural to upcycle them to lunch bags because of teh Poverties.

I believe him when he befriended a black guy during jury duty. Also believed him when he was roasting the lawyer and had the room howling.

Yes, the one about kicking a dog to death.

His story about being 14 and being convinced an old lady raking leaves was a witch so him and a friend threw rocks at her was probably real.

He said he got into an elevator at the gym with Tony Danza once and Danza didn't recognize him. I believe that one.

I believe him when he talked about how erock gave him an autographed picture of a hockey player or something and he put it in the garage then wound up giving it to his brother.

Oh. Have you ever heard the story about fucking black girls he met at a club one night upstate somewhere? That's most definitely true. Especially when asked a follow up question, like "which bar/club" he stuttered and mumbled and couldn't answer coherently. That one is most definitely true.

Link please? I love when he gets caught in lies

Remember that when he was young and in basketball camp, he ran into his idol Pistol Pete Maravich and he and Pistol Pete just shot some hoops together..alone. "But just for a bit..it wasn't like we were hanging out.) WHAT A FUCKIN ASS FUCK

Breaking his neck and crying on the beach.

Pretty sure that candy kid story was 100% true and riveting radio to boot

tss

I believe him when he alphad that middle eastern guy and flipped his table full of 9/11 merch. Guy was so scared of opie he didn't do anything

I believed him when he befriended a black guy during jury duty. Also believed him when he was roasting the lawyer and had the room howling.

I was wondering the same thing when he was talking about the Muslim in the family today.

I'm pretty sure he didn't shit himself in front of his exes parents and a log of shit rolled out his pants

I am pretty sure about his mom being crazy though

The one about the fistfight underwater... oh... wait...

Oh yeah I forgot about that one, that one's definitely true.
