Opie wanted to be bits and stunts and "steer the ship" and "keep the show moving" and do naked lady/retard radio but it just didn't fit with satellite radio from 2008 onwards. It was like, 1995 to 2005 stuff. By the time 2008+ rolls around, you just think it's dumb and old-fashioned.

Opie kept all those dated sensibilities and it cost them terrestrial simulcast, something Opie was devastated by.

The declining ratings with Opie style content and the show's evolution made Opie a disappointed, resentful person. The loss of the simulcast doesn't get brought up enough but it is objective proof that Opie's instincts and radio content suck and Ant and Jim were fools to not do something about it.

Early on Anthony mixed in better with the 'shock jock' flow by doing quick jokes and tons of impressions. On terrestrial with the commercial breaks and so on a quick 'shock jock' flow mattered, with someone steering the ship.

Once you're on satellite, you have to be funny for longer periods. You don't need a ship steering person in the same way. There's less censorship so the 'naked chick' bits or 'human stunt' bits are not needed in the same way.

That and premium t.v. and ubiquitous internet access make the "shock jock" stuff almost incomprehensibly passé.

In 2008 or so, the show was going in a different direction. Ant and Jimmy was just trying to hold a conversation but Opie wanted a bit of a more structured show with more mass appeal. Opie had that made up in 2008 and made it public in 2009. Opie felt left out.

Opie himself said he was just watching Ant and Jim get in a groove with each other and wasn't needed and the "show that should have happened" wasn't Opie and Jimmy in 2014, it was Ant and Jimmy in about 2010.

So accurate. Time and technology has passed Opie by, the radio skills he brought to the "team" way back when are less than useless now.

yea maybe Ant getting fired was the best thing for him. his show/network are really progressing and becoming better and better.plus he just seems alot happier. not having to walk on greggshells everyday can really change a guy.

I see the happiness with Ant but the show still isn't as good as O&A 2010. Just like Opie they are both building their own platform and adding other shows. Some of those shows on those platforms are better than the headliner. It is a good position to be in for both using their name recognition to create something different and be the "Ship steerers" because that is what they both are now. IT still beats most of the other shot out there. Ant rules, OPie has built a good channel, and Jim Norton still sucks the peckahs like a sock cucka motha fucka, penis shit, fuck. Jimmy rules.

If Opie had an ounce of humility he would have been happy to go along for the ride and act like a moderator for Ant, Jim, and the others.

The thing about chemistry is that often times in a chemical reaction, there is a limiting reactant--one that stops the chemistry from continuing any further. That's Opie. The limiting factor of the show.

Here's a summation:

The show moved away from that shock jock shit.

Opie no longer had a place on the show.

Opie resented this because he is not a funny person and seeing a bunch of the other kids playing and having fun while he was laughing and staring at the wall destroyed his narcissistic sense of self worth.

His wife spoke up and agitated this more at home (purely theoretical, but it is pertinent to the argument)

Opie has heard how he's not the funny one or the reason anyone listened for years. In the early days of internet message boards all the way to Reddit, but in his mind he's a genius and people just don't understand.

Ant gets punched in the head and says a bunch of mean things.

Opie doesn't "get him fired" but he "absolutely" doesn't "go to bat for him" "with all his effort". (Enough about the quotations!)

Opie saw that the Opie and Anthony show moved past him, past Opie being a vital part of it, and resented it, and decided he'd rather preserve and grow himself than the show. And, in addition to this completely understandable but hateable action, expected everyone to like this new shit, to like the Caitlynn Jenner shit, ketchup shit etc.

It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense as a whole, but this is my take on it, in hindsight.
