That's what enraged me so much about about Jocktober. Opie would criticize the jocks and say they are nobodies who he will forget in 5 minutes." Truth is they are broadcasting on radio stations that people listen to and enjoy. They may do bad radio in our or the O&A shows opinion, but they are pretty successful as personalities. And most of them are probably staying true to themselves and fans. And I'm pretty sure them and their fans don't care about the O&A show either. During Jocktober, Opie was trying to be mean and sarcastic and it wasn't funny. Jim and Ant were just being funny with no hate behind it. Opie knows he was one step away from doing the midday drive in Tuskaloosa.
Those small town radio personalities are celebrities in their areas, and get recognized and praised all the time. They get approached by fans as often if not more than Opie, by normal people. The only people that approach Opie are psychopaths and creeps. I know my local station had a pretty decent turnout for the annual "Food-A-Bago" where they try to fill an RV with canned goods at a local grocery store to give to needy bums. Can you imagine Opie and Jim doing a live-feed somewhere these days? The "Hi Opie!" guy and BaldOpie would be the only people to show up.
He wasnt shit with him. Nobody tunes in to hear what opie has to say, before and after Anthony. Opie is a fucking anchor that has always slowed the show down. Now he just sinking the show single handedly.
millions and millions off the back of people who're much more talented. but maybe that's the trick. that could be it. the secret to what makes america great. showing up, working hard, putting in the hours, hardly ever taking a day off. you could be an autistic, talentless zilch, but you still make it because you put in the work, you put in the time, and you got lucky with meeting the right people.
or it could just be the young dumb blonde surfer look that everyone subconsciously gives extra free passes in his late 20s. I don't think opie gets this far if he looked like mike bocchetti
