I mentioned this in another thread, but I was listening to a clip recently where he claimed to have invented playing the sound of crickets to fill the silence after a boring statement or a bad joke.
There's nothing that pisses me off more than when Opie and Jimmy would sulk about the fact that South Park get away with things they couldn't. Almost as if they'd like South Park to get censored more.
I can understand this from Opie, but from Jim.... Disappointing.
As much as I like classic O&A, those guys aren't shit next to Matt and Trey.
Jim often made that point - that cartoons have much more leeway than regular (white) comics when it comes to offensive content. But he never implied that cartoons should lose those freedoms, he just resents the double standard, and rightfully so.
He's being a hypocrite, whining about censorship and then sulking about them not being censored. His intentions may not be bad but he comes across childish and jealous.
The fucking nerve of him. Everyone in the world knows South Park, even my grandmother was aware of the show due to the unique animation style.
I've asked no less than two dozen people in my life if they ever heard of O+A and they all look at me with a blank-eyed stare, then after explaining the show they couldn't look less interested.
The one thing the two shows have in common these days is they both suck donkey dick.
It may be a little past it's prime, I haven't watched it for a while but as far as I'm concerned everything from season 7 to season 15ish was pretty fucking brilliant.
I'd give them from season 5 to about season 13, but yeh, it was amazingly consistent from episode to episode and now it's much, much, much more hit and miss, and the hits aren't exactly all time classics either.
Yeah, I think I started to think that when I saw the Oprahs minge episode.... We may be splitting hairs on which seasons are the greatest but can we at least agree that Opie doesn't have any right to criticise them....... and he's a massive twat.
P.S. I can't get over how fast you get replies on reddit. This is like commenting on youtube but I get way less time to think of something witty to say.
I don't care what topics they cover as long as it's entertaining. And honestly, they haven't destroyed redditors. There's been like 2 good episodes so far this year. Spending an entire season on something doesn't automatically make it destroyed, you have to make it funny too.
When I was 12 and it first came out it was great, and I've only seen it sporadically over the years. It does get super preachy and douchey at times but it occasionally makes me laugh. However they do always manage to "Push the envelope" or however you'd say it, challenge the mainstream and they tackle serious topics in a satirical way. It's not for everyone, but it's certainly original, and Gregg Opie Hughes has nothing to do with them being successful
Original air date August 13th 1997, and it was like an overnight success, I knew about south park 18 years ago, I just heard about O&A within the past 4 or 5, and I fucking live in NY . They were still on WAAF at the time being heard by pretty much no one. The worst part is he honestly believes this shit, he thinks he made their career.
It was an overnight success because it had a whole summer's worth of advertising across, at that time, all the top cable networks. The "Don't kick the baby" ads were ubiquitous. Comedy Central knew they had a hit way before it ever aired.
Let's not get it twisted. Interviews with the insanely in-demand Trey & Matt helped who they did interviews with. Conan didn't help them. They helped Conan. O&A didn't help them, they helped O&A. And Trey & Matt CLEARLY hated doing interviews with everyone. Once they realized that, they quit doing interviews.
It was successful beforehand, their Jesus vs Santa/Frosty vs Jesus animations got them their pilot. The Jesus vs Santa video was also put on copies of Tiger Woods PGA Tour '99.
Opie is a delusional cunt. They were doing afternoons at AAF in Boston, not that huge of an audience. Tits thinks because they played sound clips from an already viral internet video and had Matt&Trey on as guests that he was personally responsible for their success...seriously!? I knew nothing about O&A until college and heard them on NEW they were thrown off air a few months later. I was watching South Park almost 5 years before I even heard of Opie.

If you back up about 30 seconds you'll also see Opie completely miss the joke and think that Randy didn't know the puzzle.

South Park sucks donkey dick? Behave.

It isn't terrible but I kinda agree. They had some amazing seasons but I think the show's about 7 years past its prime now.

So you are commenting on current south park but also admitting you have watched in years....hmmm
1 SickleSellout 2015-11-08
Didn't say I hadn't seen it in years, I said a while. I haven't seen this season, but I've seen everything before that.
4 libsarementallyill 2015-11-08
You're mad that they're destroying faggot liberal redditors this entire season.

We had them on before they were big time. We practically established their career cause a hundred people from long island vaguely knew who they were.
