I heard it judges fake accounts by their picture. Not really fool proof

I think it has at least as much to do with Twitter, nobody really uses it and 2% would be considered amazing engagement on a post.

Wow this is weird. I remember Sam bragging about them getting to 1000 followers not that long ago (maybe 2 months at the longest) and now they have over 40,000? Plus if you actually look at their posts on Twitter they barely can get 5 retweets. Very little activity for an account with over 40,000 followers

How exactly does twitter audit determine a follower to be fake?

The twitter profiles are given a rating. Number of accounts they follow, followers they have, frequency of tweets, variety of tweets... etc are the variables that go into the score. Certainly a programmer can be savvy enough to make bots that score highly on the listed criteria but most do not.

exactly, i have 4 followers and 0 tweets, but i followed opie. Im probably considered a fake follower from the account data that people can publicly mine from twitter servers

Not that I give any shits about how many followers anybody has, but fake followers doesn't necessarily mean they were bought. I have like 8 followers, and I'm pretty sure 2 are fake, and I barely tweet.

I'm pretty sure if you're involved in any trending topics, you start getting random follows from bots and all that shit.

Embarrassing, especially because you can get that many followers just by doing follow 4 follow shit. It's not a "real" number but it's more real than literal fake bought accounts.
