Liking the movie is fine. Dressing up and celebrating a day for a fictional work is geeky. Problem now is we live a geek culture where its trendy and profitable to part of that group, they are just an off shoot of hipsters. Yeah its entertaining but there's no Ghostbuster day, no Jurassic park day, Avengers, etc, it belongs at the ComicCons. Its all marketing to sell shit and people are sheep.
It is 100% a generational thing. Everyone except Tits loved Back to the Future when it came out, there was no geek stigma attached to it at all. 2 months after it's release it was the #1 movie at the box office and the #1 song on the radio was from its soundtrack. But I agree, geeks have taken the movie over and ruined it for many people.
