Stern has definitely changed and softened over the years, but even the 2015 Howard has 10x the talent of the Opester of any age. Stern pulls out some great interviews in his new format.
Of course it's jealousy. I used to love O&A, but they never came close to what Howard was in his heyday. Not even close. The fucking guy hasn't gone more than a few weeks without mentioning Howard in 20+ years, even before the whole 'gag order' controversy.
He hates that he doesn't have the recognition Stern has, because he genuinely believes he's as good. I'd bet my life Opie listens to Howard 100 and 101 daily. Opie doesn't hate Stern. He wishes he was him, but poor tits doesn't have a fraction of the talent.
When he saw that Stern blocked him on twitter, it was the worst day of his life. We saw more outrage over the fact he was blocked on twitter by his hero than when his radio partner of two decades was fired.
I don't know if I just listened to O&J too much. But I started listening to Stern again and the show really isn't that bad. Heck, even Sherrod has been on the Stern wrap-up show more than O&J recently.
Opie was in radio for 13 years doing shitty overnights and weekends on nothing stations when he met Anthony. Less than 6 months after meeting they were doing drive time in Boston.
