I haven't listened to o&a except for their first show back after Anthony's firing, but from what I've heard discussed on here, nothing on that show needs a writer now since Opie wanted to take the show in a different direction & make it more of a serious talk show format.

That may be right. Often "Executive Producer" is often just the person(s) who put up front money. However, it's not likely the Stangels sold the TV show without committing some amount of their own time and experience to it.
