One of my favorite O&A cases of comedian drama: Jay Mohr vs. Louis CK & Ricky Gervais

"Shove it up your shitty fucking retarded nigger shit cunt"

"AAHHHHHWWWHHUUUWHUUUWWHHUUUUUHH"

"AHAHAHAHAHA 'EE CALLED ME A RETARD, YOU CANT SAY THAT AHAHAHAHA."

Mohr's ability to mimic people's voice, mannerisms, and even their personality, is fucking creepy. Especially because he said on his podcast that he can either do an impression PERFECTLY on first attempt, or he can NEVER do it.

Or how he said Florentine's is the same as Colin's but just deeper. Jay is a genius when it comes to impersonations.

What makes me put Mohr as one of the best is how he constructs stories around his characters, usually impressionists do some famous lines from a movie.

Then again he knows most of the people either on set or in the comedy celler

He's got a great ability to say things his characters would say rather than things that they do say. It takes it on to a whole other level.

His Colin is the best, he knows that man too well

if you dont know whos doing it, they are literally indistinguible

I remember this. Ricky and Louie snowballing each other's cum, acting like they're too cool to be there.

I remember listening to the Louis & Ricky appearance and the Jay Mohr followup, though I didn't listen to the discussion later on somebody linked in the comments.

I understand that Jay thought Louis and Ricky were being cunty, and I think that, from his perspective, he had a valid point. I'm a fan of Louis so I treat him a bit favorably, but I can see where Jay was coming from.

Him being such a little bitch about it is the problem. He didn't have the balls to confront them when it was happening, so he calls back later on to bitch and moan and try to get validation from O&A. I've only ever listened to the show through postings on YouTube and have only heard Jay a handful of times, but this call in made me lose all respect for him. He does a great impression, but he's a spineless bitch.

I think the Louie/Gervais conversation was way funnier than the Mohr follow-up call regardless.

At least they're funny cunts.

I sound like Jim Jeffries.

and his plastic-faced broad writes his comedy for him. and he lies and steals jokes, apparently.

Such a waste of face, same with Portia what's her name (the one who married Ellen Degeneres) I didn't even realize it was her on later seasons of arrested Development

yeah she really was unbelievably hot and probably would've aged fine, then just fucked it all up

The only thing I know about his broad, or one of his past girlfriends/wives/whatever, is that she called the cops in response to some "threats" made by Dice Clay.

Anybody who takes Andrew Dice Clay seriously is probably a waterhead.

he admitted, actually I don't think that's the right term because he said it he seemed more proud/protective of her than self deprecating, that she wrote his last special.

His cunty ex wife called the police.

His current wife, Nikki Cox, writes a lot of his material

Loved when Jay was shitting on the talentless, pretentious moron about thanking his boxing coach.

That really was the moment I stopped being a fan of Louie. His whole shtick was "relatable upset with his life, middle aged family man", he turned his back on that, now he just comes off as a pretentious asshole that thinks he is creating art.

I really don't understand how people find him funny

jay mohr has a bit of patrice in him, willing to blow up bridge with infants & nuns walking on it to make a point, for that I appreciate him. Ricky is not funny and I have no idea why Louis was sucking up to him so much and why everyone on the show loved the british zilch. I guess it's something over my head.

Because Ricky's biggest talent is not comedy, it is psychology. He does this with everyone. He is so smart when it comes to being able to control conversations by realizing what everyone's core goals and weaknesses are. He will do or say something small that nobody notices except one person, but it will cause that one person to completely take himself out of the equation mentally. Then he pumps up whoever else is there to get them wanting to agree with whatever he says. He then uses important sounding words in ways that make people think they know what he is talking about and are immediately asked to confirm their agreement with him. Once they do that it is hard to get them to reverse and tell him he is full of shit when he starts going off on whatever he wants to say. They will go out of their way to continue their agreement as he raises the levels of perceived intelligence. He has already lifted himself above the fray intellectually and any disagreement you may have can be dismissed with your inability to properly understand the nonsense you already agreed with.

He's not smart at all. He regularly gets ass fucked in debates on twitter, his only response is to claim that he is hurting "the trolls" (people who prove him wrong) by blocking them. He's got a severe case of the Greggshells, remember how easily that guy who pretended to be black made him freak out?

tbf, twitter debates aren't really the best place to prove one's intelligence. he wrote The Office. he's fucking brilliant.

He also wrote Derek and Life's Too Short. So...

He also wrote the BBC office and arguably the greatest character of all time; David Brent.

I liked Life's too short.

so that makes him "not smart at all"? I don't think you have much of an argument

Work on your reading comprehension and then get back to me.

nah, reading's for queers

He co-wrote it with Stephen Merchant.

fair enough

That kind of proves what I was trying to say. He can't properly gauge a person's reactions over twitter. Unless he knows something about them he doesn't know what to go after. And most of the laughs he gets are because either he laughs first and everyone joins in, or he says something that one person will understand and people will want to join in. He can't give a look to one guy or tell him an inside joke on twitter and get everyone to follow.

back when mohr had balls, now he's a fat grovelling dickbag

I love Jay to death, he's one of my favorite comics and his live shows are incredible. But man if I have not absolutely had it with his trumpeting how goddamn funny he thinks his wife is, and his incessant repeating of "how she writes all his material."

Dude...what are you doing. WHY would you tell everyone with a set of ears that? He volunteers it constantly, I mean I could see if it was in deep discussion or he was pressed on it and admitted it, but to just yell it to the rafters on a daily basis makes zero sense to me. Why would you go out of your way to advertise you don't write your own fucking jokes? Do you NOT think that's going to hurt your career/image? Holy shit.

*I will admit months ago I said "Im not sure Jay said that, exactly" and tried to take the Norton route? I was wrong. I will fall on my sword.

I've seen that written a few times, never heard him do it but wouldn't surprise me at this point.

I mostly went off him after he apologised to Milano and that driver dyke.

He says it at least 3x in every episode of Mohr Stories. The last episode with Dean Delray, Im not kidding I think he says THREE times in an hour how his wife either writes his jokes and/or wrote his entire special.

I think even recently Barry Katz (mayn) tried to gently dissuade him from saying it so much, if I remember.

Clearly Bobcat had rubbed off on her over the years...

Literally.

Of course he writes his own jokes. His wife hasn't been getting much acting work lately and he's trying to keep her happy.

I guess, maybe. I mean they seem happy as clams, so good for them and everything, but it's like...we GOT IT, sir. Like Dennis Hopper says in True Romance: "Slow it DOWN, maaaan!"

wouldn't balls have been to address it during the show?

that'd be huge balls

i wouldnae even go that far to be honest, its just being direct and completely fits the status quo of the situation. really felt that jay mohr was acting pretty lame for calling back later to moan.

completely fits the status quo of the situation

wut

reading that back it doesnae make a whole lot of sense, i meant that for the group it would make sense to approach it like a man and just deal with it at the time.

Here's all 3 of them talking about it a few weeks later... Jay and Ricky are on the phone from L.A. and England with Patrice in studio:

https://youtu.be/Co_yWmPqlq8

you MOTHERFUCKER

thought I'd found a clip I hadn't heard before. fuck you so much hahahaha

Had to do it... hasn't been done for a little bit, and it was the perfect opportunity to do it

I have to admit it was a good shot.

For all his flaws, Jay is second only to Patrice in terms of wit, perspective, and when he wants, savage ballbusting. Glad the tides finally turned on this one, because everyone was defending Louis and calling Jay a jealous hater for the longest time (he is, but doesn't make him wrong or less funny).

That Jay Mohr youtube impression repertoire is what got me hooked on OandA so many years ago. Easily the best phoner friend of the show. The Gervais/Louis CK impression, the Iron Shiek rage, Colin and Colin, etc.

That wasn't the first time Louis was an annoying waste of time on the show, but it was the one that BROKE MY HEART, MAN.

In retrospect it wasn't like this, but at the time it felt like a sudden change. Only about five years before that, still a really clear memory, I'd seen Louis in some $8.50 strip-mall club nervously trying out his "my wife has me in a sexual gulag and my daughter's a disgusting bitch" block on three fans and thirty loud girls-night-outers. You could see on his face that he thought they might mob up and lynch him if he did it. Then he murdered the place by delivering it all like it was painfully true, like he needed to tell us.

Then suddenly, like it was the next day...

I agreed with Jay Mohr. That's how fucked up it was.

(Listening back to his call-in, it's hard not to break my "no more Opie hate" resolution. Fucking five seconds in...)

my "no more Opie hate" resolution

What? Why?

Ronnie b and mohr talked about it on ron and fez that day I thought too.

You got audio of that?

Yeah

Link faggot

Find it yourself jerkface.

Hey now, no need to get salacious about it

Jay is the funniest impressionist. He may not get the voice, but the cadence is always spot on. He analyzes his target and gets in his mind. Its crazy.

I'm going to listen to this instead of finding a job.

I thought Jay was spot on from the beginning. It's nice to see others finally getting Louis and Gervais's balls out of their mouth.

I agree with Jay that Ricky & Louis are obviously friends and they dominated the conversation. Worst part, it wasn't even that funny. But I also disagree with Jay on something; he & Jimmy did not hit any home runs. Sure there was no chemistry in the room and Ricky & Louis were the main reasons for that but Jay didn't do much to turn the other guys either.

This isn't the first time I've heard Ricky sound kind of awkward on O&A with another comedian.. He & Rogan didn't seem to vibe to well either..

https://youtu.be/4OrpwoxEc4k

Also, it sounds like Louis CK just doesn't like Jay. Is there any other audio of those two together? After hearing these clips as much as I love both guys I couldn't imagine they would have great chemistry.

Mohr didn't have shit to say when he was actually in the room with Louie and Ricky. He went home and stewed over it and worked on his impression and what to say, then called in to talk about them long after they were gone.

Just like if it happened to Ant, Jimmy, and Opie. They couldn't even stand up to Whoppi Goldberg.

True, except in those cases they talked about the person BEFORE and then when they showed up they backed down and ended up liking the person. Louie and Jay had known each other for years and when he felt they were taking over the show he just cowered. At least he had the comedic instincts to realize his impressions and name-dropping stories weren't gonna work in that room - they took over the room and there was nothing he could do about it - but calling in later to attack them was kind of a bitch move.

I don't know if anyone knows this but Jay Mohr was in a movie with Tom cruise.

He was also in Pluto Nash.

I forgot about that movie. I remember the Tom cruise one because it feels like he brings it up on every podcast.

If I recall correctly, Pluto Nash was the biggest money-loser ever up until John Carter came out. So if you forgot about it, you're not alone.

this bothers me every time. and then hes in soon after the whole debacle with just louie and he becomes a mixture of colin and ron bennington, with ricky gervais' laugh and he just licks louie's anus the entire time and its really uncomfortable

lol at 35 seconds in the first video. Louie almost calls Gervais insecure a few times but backs out because he knows he couldn't handle it.

Based Jay.

All I'm getting from these clips is how terrible Opie is.

[deleted]

can't stand mohr loud obnoxious and unfunny to me

I love Louis. And Jay makes me laugh but I just can't get past the fact that he's a scum human being

And Jay makes me laugh but I just can't get past the fact that he's a scum human being

How so?

Notorious joke thief, cucked by his wife, sure him calling out Louie and Ricky was hilarious but he didn't have the balls to do it to their faces in studio, many people have shitty stories about him and how he treats comedy like a frat house. He's just not a good dude

I... understand.

my "no more Opie hate" resolution

What? Why?
