He then proceeds to constantly & obsessively interrupt the show to give more reasons why he's more than a board op.

*JV & Elvis call Opie an "Unfunny Board Op" so Opie start desperately trying to be funny which needless to say was uncomfortable. So the phone call ends not a second to early for Opie because JV & Elvis were smashing Opie's face with brass knuckles, & Opie wasn't even able to hold his gloves up to protect his face. It was like that seen in Full Metal Jacket where Cowboy got shot multiple time by the sniper, but the squad was able to pull him to safety before she delivered the kill shot.

So after getting smashed by JV & Elvis for 3 Rounds, Opie turns to Ant & said "How Did I Do?" And started laughing like he just schooled them. It really was a glance into Opie's mind & you could see the neediness & insecurites. After that beating by 2 radio guys that Opie repeatedly called "Hacks", Opie had to feel like the reoccurring dream from childhood where you walked into your school classroom naked. ENJOY!

There's also a part just before this where he gets excited because Anthony has to leave and now he's 'broadcasting solo.' Jimmy has to remind him that there are other people in the room.

This was when he was really at his worst, the 'virus spreading across America' era. So transparent and douchy. I actually think he got better after they lost FM and his spirit got broken. Then the Ant firing stuff pissed me off again.

The entire thing from start to finish is worth listening to. I remember at the time really thinking ONA got them good. In hindsight JV & Elvis destroyed them.

Stray observations:

Vos was the first one to bring up Opie's fame as a comeback to them. Then Opie starts repeating it because he has no other comebacks. Then at the end of the show he claimed as if that was his line he came up with, no credit to Vos sitting there.

Bonnie has a great line about the white t-shirt being the superior one that goes unnoticed by everyone but Vos and Ant.

Opie is smashing JV and Elvis as being company men while explaining how he got famous by going against corporate. Opie is now the ultimate corporate man.

ONA smashing JV & Elvis about one of them having a drinking problem and the other one being upset about it exactly mirrors ONA's future.

JV & Elvis: "Funny man and The Finger"

After JV & Elvis destroy Jimmy and Opie but claim Ant is the funny one, Ant returns to the call way less hostile toward them. You can tell he secretly enjoyed what they said about Opie.

The guy who told Jimmy to stop cursing problem meant to say "screaming". Jimmy was screeching like a 4 year old boy while JV & Elvis calmly destroyed them.

You forgot one thing. O&J were yelling at them so JV & Elvis took a few calls saying they were great & O&A suck. So Opie (of all people) Yelled "we hurt your feelings so you had to load your phone bank with praise calls so you can feel better about yourselves. That's what untalented hacks do!" And then O&J'S very first week after Ant was fired & the very first call telling Opie that he sucks, Opie immediately loaded his phone bank with praise call!. Then the listener started telling the truth by pointing out what Opie does wrong, so Opie got embarrassed & turned up the music to drown out the caller, and the caller said go ahead & drown me out so nobody hears the truth! And Opie said "Yes. I'm doing this because I don't want to hear what you have to say!" I guess the old message he preached "We won't hang up on you like Howard. If you don't like us call & tell us & we won't interrupt you" only applied when he had Ants quick wit & ability to smash people to hide behind.

Oh, & don't forget, when he ran out of comebacks, so basically 5 seconds into the fight he pulled the only comeback he has. "I'M A MILLIONAIRE! HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?" Right on schedule. That trains never late.
