How did Ron escape the hate?

Ron seems like a fat alchy know-it-all who’s never displayed an ounce of loyalty in his bloated life. Sure he’d “go to bat for” anyone, by the way, what ever happened to Fez, Dave, Earl, Shelby, etc.? Guess he doesn't like doing radio with anyone except his literal child and the man he himself calls uh-huh; that's not the definition of nepotism and cronyism. Really, people here seem to like him for the same reasons they like their fuck-up older brother, he wears a leather jacket and tells mom and dad to just screw off. When people bring this up, his sycophants respond in the same way children would when defending their big-bro, “You’re not cool, you don’t know, just, just shut up!” At best they respond, “And who do you like man? Barney aka Opie? He’s made me happy before by giving me a ride on his Harley/telling some decent jokes (we’ve sunk so low we worship true mediocrity)!”.

He's good at radio, so his faults get a pass. The same as Anthony did. Hell, even Opie got a pass for being next to people who were good at radio.

Yeah Ron and Fez was great, but on the new show no one really challenges Ron and he's gotten complacent. And Gail is nice but sort of bland and she kinda just giggles at everything and agrees with everyone.
I'm sure it was never likely to happen, but I think a Ron and Anthony show really could have been interesting and would have forced them to both challenge themselves more, too bad Keith mismanaged that whole thing.

He's escaped much of the hate because of a few reasons from what I can tell: I think he can be legitimately funny sometimes. When he isn't funny, he's not especially unfunny as opposed to Opie all the time or even Anthony who can end up bombing by attempting humor. He's considered to be an honest guy because he went on TACS and pointed out all of Anthony's flaws. R&F at their height could never outshine O&A, but they also had a smaller distance to fall. He isn't on social media and, as a result, has no big instances of telling the fans to fuck off in a cunty way. That's my best guess.

Opie fucking sucked on the radio, Ant's doing a shit show now and comes on here and drunkenly rants about how shitty his fans are for not loving it. I don't have to try to hate them.

Ron's broken up families, stolen medication from the sick, and let his friends die, then did nothing productive as his radio show and best friend of 20 years fell apart. He's destroyed his body with burgers and cigars more surely than many could with pills. This isn't a joke of hyperbole, he's admitted most of this himself.

Gail is an objectively good choice because she's automatically going to have good chemistry and work well with Ron. She's also a woman on the radio that doesn't act like a hole at all and that's pretty rare. I don't know about other people but I like ron because he's incredibly good at radio. The only thing that annoys me about him is you can tell he bases some of his opinions on whether it looks cool or not. I guess he has a tinge of narcissism but it's nowhere near Opie's shit.

He's not as bad as Opie, he's not as good as Ant, he just tells silly dad jokes mostly and talks about his terrible taste in music and movies.
Having no social media accounts has probably saved him from people seeing his real personality. It's easy to scream over any callers who disagree before hanging up on them, or bully your underlings into being submissive yes men, it's not so easy when people can interact with you online as Opie and Anthony have both found out.

He comes off as a guilty white liberal, but it's a bit camouflaged by his bigger personality traits of being a somewhat permanently brain damaged hipster. His taste in music is almost as bad as his pride in said music. His lack of understanding of science (and anything not to do with comedy) would be fine, if he didn't act as if he did know, with all the confidence of a dope.
