He just can't tell the difference between being funny and being mean. There's definitely overlap but he has no understanding of where the line is, he just throws shit out there and some things (very few) land so he keeps doing it. Also helps to have the Stangels and Jimmy cackling at everything, they should just add a laugh track to the show.

Who the fuck is Whitney Thore?

It was so refreshing to hear Jay Leno on Rogan's podcast last week when Joe goes "Do you miss the Tonight Show?" And Jay is like "NO! Hell no. Do you think I was interested in talking to any of those people?" (Im paraphrasing, but that was his ethos) Opie and Jim are still stuck having to talk to all these zilches because they want the show to be a "media destination."

I did enjoy that podcast with Jay Leno. Though, I highly doubt Leno would have stepped down voluntarily. He would still be hosting the Tonight Show if it were up to him.

I think it also has to do with the quality of interviews and interesting guests the Tonight Show has had the past 10-15 years. People used to use the show to sell themselves to the public to gain and retain fans. Now it is just the circuit of interviews they are contractually obligated to do and don't give a shit what show they are on because they aren't allowed to talk about anything other than how great their shitty movie is going to be and no one cares.

Jay wishes he was doing the same show as he was doing when he started. There is no point to the show today.

Yeah, I really think it will be difficult for Colbert, Fallon, et al, b/c there are just so many TV/web options. Our entertainment is so diverse and fractured. I predict dismal ratings especially for Colbert. I enjoyed his Comedy Central right-wing schtick but it's risky banking on him because no one even knows the 'real' Colbert!

Not only that but the entire premise of the late night talk show was to get big stars to show their personalities. Today we know more about their home lives than what movies they are even in.

It was a big deal when Tom Hanks was going to be on the show because most people didn't know what his next movie was going to be about, and we haven't seen him interviewed since the last one came out a year ago so they can talk about both.

Who the fuck wants to see Taylor Swift go on Fallon every 3 weeks to talk about a new single that is already downloaded by anyone who wants it.
