Which comedians do you like that are largely unmentioned/unpopular on this sub?

I don't give a shit about what you fuckers think of me, so I'll go first. In order of when I last heard them (and I'm sure I'm missing a bunch):

  • Pete Holmes Just an overall hilarious, likeable guy. His stand up and his podcast are great. I'm rarely disappointed with him.
  • John Mulaney His special "New in Town" is one of my favorite stand up specials of all time. I also love him on Kroll Show.
  • Demetri Martin Observational, dry, literal humor. But interviews really dull.
  • Lewis Black Some of his stuff makes me laugh, but I feel like he often relies too much on the "angry, bitter old man" persona.
  • Jim Gaffigan Hilarious standup, but I don't like when he recycles bits between specials. Also, I'm not a fan of his show.

Edit: While we're at it, I don't get the appeal of Archer or Frisky Dingo. I've tried. Believe me, I've tried. Same with Arrested Development (it's never made me laugh, despite my best efforts).

There is this new comedian out there I ran across... Lyle Chip Chipperson. Check him out.

Tsssssssssurrree

stanhope

Joe Derosa Andy Kindler Ester Ku Judy Gold All fawwkin hilarious

Judy Gold? Is she the Jewish lesbian? I don't think shes ever brought it up before.

Careful don't want to be sued for libel.

Archer is fucking funny shit, and I thought Arrested Development was funny 10 years ago, hadnt bothered rewatching or watching the netflix deal.

Gary Gulman is the fucking man, he never gets brought up here. Mike Epps always makes me crack the fuck up. I like Peat Homes, Gaffigan, and Mulaney. Lewis Black is a goddamned Legend and Dimitri Martin is a hacky no talent sack of shit.

Arrested Development is most definitely worth watching again. The most recent new season sucked, but the original episodes are fucjin amazing. Tobias might be the best sitcom character ever. Best line is when Gob is riding a Segway and is carrying a sword. Micheal says "You look like your fighting dragons in the future".

Good call with Gary Gulman--he's great

Segra is great. I think most o&a fans would like him since he tours with Rogan

Great call. Your Mom's House is my go to podcast now. Jeans up.

I like some of the Comedy Bang Bang comics like Paul f Tompkins and Andy Daly whose show Review on comedy central is hilarious and extremely underrated

Andy Dalys stand up album blew my fuckin' mind.

I hate Pete Holmes cuz when he was on O&A he said "I'm one of those comics that thinks legalizing weed isn't a good thing because when I preform in these places where weed is legal, it's like performing to bean bags"

It's like, can we wait til we stop packing the jails with weed offenders before you, Pete Holmes who openly smokes weed on YouTube, say it's not a good idea? What an asshole

Also, his podcast -- it's just 3hrs of a guest going "I'm spiritual, like I don't believe God is a bearded man in the sky, but maybe nature is God..."

Not sure I've ever laughed harder than when Archer abuses his butler.

I actually liked Pete Holmes on Doug Benson's show (I thought Doug was actually the weak link in that appearance), but to each their own. I especially liked it high... probably the best way to watch that show. (Granted, I've never seen any other episodes.)

What's weird about Archer is that I LIVE for dry humor. It's my bread and butter. And I still can't get into Archer. I don't think Archer is truly dry humor... Feels like something else.

I LIVE for dry humor

Haha, what a fucking quay.

Now now, not everyone can be as cool as you.

Trust me, you don't have to be cool to notice saying "I LIVE for dry humor" about yourself is the gayest thing anyone has ever said. And the capitalization is the cum icing on that turd-cake.

See, now I'm just hungry.

Demetri has always been one of my favorites but i thought from his most recent special that he is just getting lazy and worse as a comedian. Half of the material was on the last special(his closing but on this one was just somewhere in the middle on the last one), and he relies way too much on his predictable formula of "these two things are called the same thing, but used in the same scenario are completely different". I know he wrote a book and I'm sure he was busy with other things but I thought his ability as a comedian has declined with time, which is dissapointing because he seemed like a guy tha was just gonna get better and better.

Hmm, interesting. I haven't been keeping up with Demetri's material, only his older stuff and his recent special, so that's bullshit if he's recycling bits.

And isn't it the worst when you can sum up ton of a comedian's work in the manner you did? Kills the magic. When this sub did that with Jimmy, it was a shitty revelation for me.

Yeah and you couldn't really do it for Demetri before even though it was clearly there. In "Live: At The Time" he relied on those predictable formulas enough that it just felt really lazy.

This is why I love comedy, it's's all dependant on your sense of humor. I was never really a fan of Demetri but I've heard he has a big following. In any case, I was going to stay quiet till you brought up Archer and Arrested. I love both of those shows and am always genuinely surprised when people don't. Bob's Burgers is good and the Wet Hot American Summer season was funny IMO. I have been enjoying Another Period as well.

Edit: excluding the final AD season, of course.

Yeah, I don't understand why I don't like those two. It's not that I think they're necessarily bad shows; I've just never laughed aloud to either of them... They don't elicit the same reaction that my friends experience, so I'm guessing that I'm missing something. To dig myself an even deeper hole, I also couldn't get into Game of Thrones (I tried 5 episodes), so I'm starting to conclude that I must hate all things that bring people joy.

Wait, I hate Opie. Scratch that theory.

Demetri is one of my favorites. Mike Birbiglia and Darryl Purvis are also pretty funny.

I like how someone downvoted you in a thread that is specifically asking about people's potentially unpopular opinions. What a prick.

Listen to VOS vs BIRBIGLIA on O&A you'll realize how unfunny and bitter Birbiglia is, he actually makes Vos look like Carlin.

Birbiglia comes from the Bob and Tom type of radio where you let the hosts ( O&A ) set up your jokes. It's a hackey premise and I'm glad Birbiglia got the trashing he deserves

First off, I'm also not a fan of Birbiglia, but I'm not going to downvote someone ITT for not agreeing. The whole point of this thread is airing unpopular/unmentioned opinions.

Second, I also heard that Vos vs. Birbiglia show, and I felt that Vos came off as a bitter, blithering mess, who kept plowing along because he was in a familiar place with familiar people (who he sorely wanted to impress) taking down a guy clearly out of his comfort zone. You know when Jimmy screams over callers with shit logic and gets egged on to continue by O&A, citing the fact that he has a microphone as evidence of his credibility? That's how Vos struck me. If I remember correctly, Birbiglia didn't actually do anything shitty on that show, but the shit Vos was saying about Birbiglia painted him as a less-than-amazing person. Until Birbiglia shows himself as a bitter piece of shit, I'm skeptical of anything that the notoriously jealous, fabricating, shit memory, dimwitted Vos has to say. By no means was it a "Vos is amazing, Birbiglia is shit" show for me. But I'm happy to be convinced otherwise.

Vos was hilarious trashing Birbiglia, but I think both guys are hilarious.

Yeah. Vos was being a prick that day, Birbiglia just defended himself.

Yep, there are a lot of dumbos on reddit.

i used to love bribiglias standup but hes a try hard on the show

Gaffigan, Lewis Black, Steven Wright, and I really liked Jeff Garlin's special.

These are all famous comedians in their own rite. They've all had shows on Comedy Central. maybe you should mention some upcoming comedians like Nick Mullen, Crank Williams, Sean Rouse, Mike Lawrence, Yannis Pappas,Mike Recine, Geno Bisconte.

Nick Mullen is funny. He does spots in NY and opens for Metzger. He was on Ari Shaffir's podcast--good episode.

His twitter is hilarious

None of them really work blue (praise be to Denny), so Opie doesn't get that they're telling jokes without dirty words.

Captain Bobwalt

George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Doug Stanhope, Dave Chappelle, Norm Macdonald, Kyle Kinane...

Alot of the la comics.
James adomian. Brody stevens. Ron funches. Matt mcCarthy. Rory Scovel. There's dozens more.

Patrice doesn't get enough love around here and also I miss him.

Wait, who's Patrice?

You keep making comments about how Patrice is over-rated, but who do you put above him?

Frank Skinner

Yakov mothafuckin' Smirnoff.

Every bit as good as the Human Slinky, if not slightly better.

Craig Gass. Likeable guy and fucking killer impressions.

With an unfortunate last name.

But I'll check him out, thanks!

For reference, Gass is the guy who came in second to Artie when they were both competing to get Jackie the Joke Man's job after he left the Stern show.

Here he is doing an amazing impressions of Gene Simmons, right in front of him.

Demetri Martin is fucking terrible. Unless he has had a creative renaissance he is one of the worst stand ups i've ever seen, and his show sucked too.

Tom papa stinks but he's not well liked here so he doesn't count

Norm Macdonald, Bryan Callen, Tony Hinchcliffe are the main guys I like to watch or listen to, not sure whether the last two are unpopular on here, but people love Norm.

Kevin Hart.

Joe List

I've never met anyone that didn't like Arrested Development before. I don't like you

Rosie o'donnell. Love the combination of humor and pure sexiness. Love bochetti too for some deep intellectual stuff.

Rick Shapiro.

i think will forte is one of the funniest people on the planet but get the sense that this show's fans would feel otherwise.

nathan felder is also really funny. "nathan for you" is the best thing to come out on comedy central in a while.

Sam Hyde / Million Dollar Extreme

Jim Norton

Hmm, interesting. I haven't been keeping up with Demetri's material, only his older stuff and his recent special, so that's bullshit if he's recycling bits.
