I was listening to old clips and had to stop after this one. If you have 2 minutes to be enraged by Opies trampling start from the beginning.
They were trying to come up with lines the news casters would lead in with to the news story of a man betting marijuana at a poker table. Opie was trying so hard to come up with a good line he didn't listen to anyone as he read instant feedback. Louie walks on greggshells and takes it out on the guy on instant feedback.

This was one of the worst opie cringe moments. The way he fucking goes 'LETS SEE HERE, POKER... UHH BUD UH.. SAVE ME A POKE.. COME ON GUYS WHAT TO WE GOT' its like he thinks he's a fucking professor of comedy going off-road, brainstorming. He cant think of a single fragment of a news pun that makes any fucking sense. and when someone finally comes up with something he yells THERE IT IS, YUP! like he was about to contribute.
during another louie show they were trashing mastic, and they mention buying the town and renaming the town 'Stinksville, Long Island". Opie tries to come up with other town names following this theme, he blurts out "COMEDYVILLE! uhh... FUNNYVILLE! uhhh uhh.. how bout CHUCKLESVILLE!!". everyone greggshell'd and completely ignored it

I've been listening to old O&A clips and Opie used to accept beatings and admit when he bombed. There were actual moments when he was funny. Did everything go to absolute shit after his therapy sessions?

I stopped listening altogether from 2007-2009 and then stopped listening to complete shows around 2013. The first time because they went too far with the morning zoo pest angle. Then it was Ants non comedic political rants. I think it's around that time Opie evolved from verbal crutches to noises and voices. Pretty much the show came crashing down, coincidentally, not too long after Patreaky passed away.

Opie isn't a FUNNY person. He says FUNNY things on occasion, but his overall COMEDY SKILLS are above average at best. Reading bad lines shows he cannot read the situation and JUDGE the worth of a joke. His cohosts were much FUNNIER and quicker. Anthony and Jim were FUNNY people. They could be counted on to MAKE jokes consistently. Ant knew what was FUNNY on paltalk for the most part. ZINGERS were read while BOMBS were passed over.
It was OKAY though because Opie didn't have to be the funny one. It isn't a SCORCH situation where one EXTRAORDINARILY TALENTED guy has to carry the MOST LISTENED TO RADIO SHOW and MOST WATCHED TALK SHOW on his own.
