Was he saying they were a close second, or they were just the second most listened to? I hate grammar nazis, but your typo makes it a bit confusing. I wouldn't doubt that they are the second most listened to talk show. Besides Bennington and Howard, what else is there?
are they really even close to number 2? That would surprise me even. I just figured they were basically irrelevant at this point. So few people I know even knew who O&A are, can't imagine a growing audience with half the show missing.
Find a random sports show anywhere in the country. It gets bigger numbers than Opie and Anthony ever got and most likely bigger numbers than Howard in the past few years. Nobody listens to talk radio. Once both shows went to satellite they DIED. Satellite did not take off like either of them thought it would. The only people who give a shit are diehard fans, and those are dying off. Sports radio and spinnin the hits still rule this country.
All I have is FM in the car and that talk is garbage. We used to have an all talk station here (now one of 4 country stations) that had Stern, a couple of decent local guys for midday and drive, and some syndicated shows for nights, overnights, and weekends. It was good creative content. Now it's watered down and neutered.
And none of that matters because that's what people like. People like us who give a shit about content and honesty and this and that are the vast minority. Most people just slap on the radio, listen to Fallout Boy or a fat ass ramble on and on about the Jets or the Falcons or whatever on their way to work. Most people are happy with watered down content.

It's like being second richest person when the first guy has $100 and you have $1

Sports and politics and music which are all bigger draws than "shock jock" radio.

IDK, i'd think most sports fans listen to local sports radio, so they can hear about their team.
It would'nt surprise me if Opieradio is 2-4 in most listened to talk stations.

I heard Sirius Hits 1 was the most listened to station. As far as talk radio goes what he said is possible.
