Comedians Dump Campus Gigs: When Did Colleges Lose Their Sense of Humor?

It's definitely not the professors. Most of them have been there for a long time and never gave a fuck about what acts came to play the school. It's a very small but vocal sub section of the students that are becoming super sensitive because of exposure to tumblr blogs and the like. shit, half the profs. are terrified of these kids because they will get them fired if they do something could be misconstrued as even remotely racist or sexist.

Here's a quote from a "liberal lefty" prof.

Things have changed since I started teaching. The vibe is different. I wish there were a less blunt way to put this, but my students sometimes scare me — particularly the liberal ones.

I once saw an adjunct not get his contract renewed after students complained that he exposed them to “offensive” texts written by Edward Said and Mark Twain. His response, that the texts were meant to be a little upsetting, only fueled the students’ ire and sealed his fate. That was enough to get me to comb through my syllabi and cut out anything I could see upsetting a coddled undergrad, texts ranging from Upton Sinclair to Maureen Tkacik — and I wasn’t the only one who made adjustments, either.

The current student-teacher dynamic has been shaped by a large confluence of factors, and perhaps the most important of these is the manner in which cultural studies and social justice writers have comported themselves in popular media. I have a great deal of respect for both of these fields, but their manifestations online, their desire to democratize complex fields of study by making them as digestible as a TGIF sitcom, has led to adoption of a totalizing, simplistic, unworkable, and ultimately stifling conception of social justice. The simplicity and absolutism of this conception has combined with the precarity of academic jobs to create higher ed’s current climate of fear, a heavily policed discourse of semantic sensitivity in which safety and comfort have become the ends and the means of the college experience.

I dated a college professor, and from what she said, the SJWs basically run the campus like they're the KGB.

What I mean, is that people who don't even agree with the SJWs will stand by them publicly. Because if you DON'T stand by them, they can make your life a living hell.

Here's an example of this: At the school she worked at, they were evaluating a number of candidates for a position. The least qualified candidate was a black woman. But it appeared that the black woman was going to get the position, basically due to the color of her skin and the fact that she's a woman. There were better qualified candidates that were white men.

Obviously, this does a disservice to the students of the class.

The thing is, nobody can talk about these issues, or else they're labeled a "racist."

It's a really dicey situation, because my friend is the furthest thing from a racist. But at the same time, she cares about the quality of education that the kids are getting.

i can kind of picture that, sure. it's not an exact analogue, but i always remember the movie "oleanna" when I think about interactions on a college campus and how it breaks down in horrific ways.

i can't really say if it's the students running the show or the professors. i think the students ultimately wield the most power, but I'm thinking that professors have more of an impact on how students think than we'd actually give them credit for.

or, let's say that every teacher did. you're having one person stand up in front of a room full of much younger people and tell them how the world is. most of those teachers in the younger years are women, college educated, most likely lean left, and the big thinkers that are planning out how to make social engineering choices are left bent.

these kids get 20 years of being told what is right and wrong, what history and the future is, what is an acceptable way to act and think. most important of that is how to think. then they move on to become teachers and professors themselves. so it's chicken or the egg.

i can't really say if it's the students running the show or the professors.

Administrators.

There's a faction of students that works as their Red Guard, and there's a minority of faculty who are in on it, but it's pretty much all on the six-figure makework "Office of Diversity/Inclusion/Intercultural Relations" fucks, the "Student Climate" staff, etc.

You would not believe how many of those people there are.

Agree.

To a large extent, college has turned into a pyramid scheme where SJWs tell young wannabe SJWs how to think. And then those young SJWs can't find a job out of college, and wind up becoming professors themselves.

As you can imagine, there aren't a lot of these jobs available, so it becomes quite a pissing contest to see who's the biggest SJW of all.

Another absurd part of it is that they're the ones who pretend to be most anti-bullying, when in truth they're the ones who take part in an organized culture of bullying and who most happily abash, ridicule and destroy others, including their own children. And these are the people who are supposed to save us.

What I mean, is that people who don't even agree with the SJWs will stand by them publicly. Because if you DON'T stand by them, they can make your life a living hell.

Exactly how they operated in the early days of GamerGate. Defend the woman faking harassment or you will be blackballed.

I remember the time that writer tried to bribe me to leave #Gamergate but nope no ethics issues here. @SJWreptilian @JennOfHardwire

Question: You mentioned yesterday that you were black listed in March 2013 because a certain developer didn't take kindly to you saying the industry isn't inherently sexist. I suppose that naming them would be out of line but hey, I might as well ask who it was.

Answer: It was one of the literallys (one of 3 women claiming harssment)

.

But it appeared that the black woman was going to get the position, basically due to the color of her skin and the fact that she's a woman.

UCLA put out a "micro aggressions" guideline of shit not to say, one of them being “I believe the most qualified person should get the job.”

They are doing the exact same thing to the Science Fiction/Fantasy authors:

I hear Jim Norton talk about political correctness, and I think that he's missed how pervasive all of this is.

These types of "KGB" tactics are literally changing our entire society.

Imagine if you spent $150,000 to send your kid to college, then found out that they'd been brainwashed by a barely qualified college professor who only had the job because she WASN'T a middle aged white man?

Kids are malleable; the main reason that this KGB nonsense works is because they're so young.

I hate how this is only now getting attention cause it came out of the mouth of fucking Jerry Seinfeld even though its been going on for years way before. The last person that should be pointing it out is Seinfeld. Yeah dude I'm sure college students have stomped and walked out on your act about why do they call it buffalo wings when buffalos can't fly.

Wow, that comments section is a worse cesspool than this sub. Talk bout an echo chamber, nothing but shitposts getting 200+ thumbs up. What a bizarre blog.

Another relevant article, except this time it's the right wingers going "wahh my beliefs" instead of lefties going "wahh my feels"

This is the millennials doing. It's not the schools, it's not the professors, it's not liberals, it's not conservatives. It's the fucking millennials and their boomer parents who raised them to be whiny jizzbags.

Sensitive limp wristed leftists. The same broke professors who live in shitty 1 bedroom apartments and scoff at the self made capitalists. They'll fight tooth and nail for their right to be offended.

I was reading the monthly magazine sent out here to high school and elementary teachers. Many of the articles were emphasing the need to get children politically active. Of course being politically active means following whatever brainwashed tripe they're told is true. I cringed every time I read the words "social justice." It's all Orwellian garbage, but you gotta start them young otherwise it gets much more difficult to brainwash them at all. Though of course they're brainwashed from the left and the right (being the same entity as it is).

Not that I think it works as well as they'd like over the longterm. For instance, they've been filling people's heads with climate change nonsense for years, but they actually push most young people away and towards the truth. Observed reality also helps. I guess I'm optimistic that there will be a pushback in the coming years against all this media generated nonsense disguised as genuine concern.

College campuses are the absolute worst places for "freedom of expression."

The minute you begin defending gun rights, war on terror, low taxes, etc. on campus, you are a Fascist war-monger that enjoys oppressing people.

As a student, you're powerless. You need the college for a diploma.

Campuses used to be vital for the success of comedians. Now, the censor the hell out of them. The comedians no longer need the campuses to promote their brand and are simply decking the invites.

Good on them.

PS - Just a brief aside: I was forced to watch Bowling for Columbine 3 times, for 3 different classes in 4 years of college. Why? Because it was "vital" to understanding America's "gun obsession."

95% of college kids are just getting drunk, high and laid and finding any excuse to party. Maybe the comedians should stop trying to play colleges and play college towns instead. When you play a college, the normal kids don't show. Only the outcasts who join student activities attend. And if any normal kids are there, they are gonna be on their best behavior because they are sober and on freaking campus. But if you play instead in bars or theaters in the downtown/bar strip areas of college towns, you are much more likely to get the normal students, the ones who go to college to have a good time and who aren't offended by comedians who are frankly tamer with what they say than how the normal college kids actually interact with one another. So really this seems like a dumb issue raised by comedians. Performing on campus is like performing at an office banquet or business conference. Perform before those same people later that night at a downtown club, bar or theater, you're gonna get more laughs.

When the faculty started listening to the shows. Why the fuck would Rutgers want Carlos Mencia shitting all over their stage.

It's the lefty professors. Most kids I know don't give a fuck, they just wanna get fucked up and laugh at a comedy show. Professors will organize these protests and distribute these petitions through their retarded social justice student groups but nobody takes that shit seriously
