Stop focusing on how he's perceived by others and just make an opinion about him that relates to yourself. You like him, you don't, you think he's just alright. Doesn't matter if you're giving your own opinion based on how you receive him.
I know I always make my own mind, and look where it got me. Nah, it's just that it gets to me when there's all these "Oh I wish patrice would've been there. What would Patrice say." and all that kind of stuff. For once I haven't seen the stuff I used to see when he was alive "I fucking hate him, he's too loud and takes over the show. Patrice is on tomorrow, I'm not listening" and so on
Well at least people are not so vocal about them and I honestly believe some people changed their mind just because that's the "right" thing to do because he passed. And some actually say something to please his "peers" in here, which is lowest of the low if you ask me, trying to please people in a filthy subreddit
Indeed, here seems to be a strong mob mentality on things. Patrice is one example and all of a sudden Jay from LoS is the second coming of christ. When majority says they like someone, people seem to go along with them just to be part of this thing and not be an idiot who knows nothing. Same shit since school.
Or because Big Jay has always been funny but hasn't been nearly as visible as he's been recently thanks to Bennington, LoS, Bonfire, etc. I'm not sure how many cool points anyone has to gain by claiming they think Big Jay Oakerson is a hilarious comedian.
You can't see the bandwagon shit that goes on here? I'm not saying neither of them aren't funny, but to think they are funny enough to get this near cult following is a bit much.
Patrice's talent is still underrated, but I get what you are saying about people overrating him. He should have done more with his talent but wasn't disciplined and was self-destructive. But he was also entering his prime, as many of the great comedians do in their forties. Alot of young comedians that hit it big tend to be good looking or very loud physical performers, but they tend to flame out before 40 (the tastes of their audiences change as they progress from teens to middle aged parents). The more intelligent, deliberately paced performers tend to enter a long prime in their forties. Patrice was maturing in that manner. So many of his contempraries thought he was the funniest and most talented of all of them.
Patrice, Dane and Burr started together. Based on the nature of their comedy and physical appearance, it's not a shocker that Dane hit it huge first or that Burr is hitting it big later. Both of them regarded Patrice as more talented than them. Patrice's trajectory was probably gonna be similar to Burr with the potential to hit it even bigger.
But there are times that I get annoyed with the way that people act like everything Patrice said or did was fucking unbelievable. For example, everyone raves about how he clowned on that girl about Imus on Fox News, but I was never impressed with anything Patrice said or did in that appearance.

Patrice is overrated, he's funny as are most of the regulars, but this god-like status he's gotten since his death is embarassing.

Maybe you're just a special snowflake?
