I went to school in Philadelphia 5+ years ago, and became friends with people who live all around that area. I don't live in PA anymore, and I'm not a fucking hipster.
NE Philly is a suburb stuck within the Philly wage tax. You're essentially stuck paying for all of the city's bullshit without any of the positives from actually living in a city. Shit traffic, poor access to public transit, etc.
It's fucking terrible, I'd rather live in shithole kensington than be stuck in NE Philly.
Northeast Philly resident my whole life except for time spent In Northern California at School. I lived in Marin County (a real rich suburb.) and I lived in Hipster Town Central Northern Liberties for a couple years after school. Does that make me a former hipster? Probably?.. I did have a black girlfriend and a rescue pit bull. Maybe I am just getting old but I have extreme white trash pride for my specific area of Northeast Philadelphia. I have easy access to public transportation, the shore and NY are both easily accessible to me. I own my home in a safe neighborhood by one of the best and largest city parks in the country where I walk my rescue pitbull (got rid of the other bitch). I agree once you leave the city it is a terrible suburban hell (Bensalem , Croydon Yuck) and I do agree with you on the City Wage Tax it is just awful.
I pulled up Wikipedia, you used a picture from Etsy. A lot Graphic designers make their bread and butter by taking maps of all US cities, vectorizing them in Adobe illustrator, and selling them to rubes on Etsy.
Most likely the original graphic designer isn't from philly and has no idea that his map is wrong.
