A lot of nervous, over eager energy. They sound like theyre popping adderalls and every second of the show they're going 120% and it doesnt quite sound comfortable despite being funny. The last few episodes have been considerably better and it sounds like theyre finding their place.
I think sometimes Big Jay tries too hard to match Soder's rapid fire joke pace and it doesnt work for him. Soder can rock you with quick hitters, where Big Jay is more of a story guy. I think the show works though and they will find their ryhtym.
It's a great show, especially when you survey the landscape.
If this was the mid 90s, or even the mid 00s, you could be this critical, but when you compare "The Bonfire" to all the shit that's out there now (O&J, Carolla, Rogan, new Stern), it's already head and shoulders above everything else.
Yea, despite the immense collective talent of the bonfire i think legion of skanks is by far the better spot for jay.
Even though jay can riff at soders coked up robin williams pace he fits in a lot more in the smoked out, laid back, complete piece of shit degenerate environment of LOS.
and its only the first month, i look forward to mondays and tusedays, i miss when OnA would give me that feeling.
i used to archive all the OnA shows but then they got really bad, this show is perfect to archive because they dont have shitty guests yet, no dumb focus on "news", no boring race talk. its the type of show you can go back and listen to anytime.
and since they are comedians they don't rely on being live, the latest episode was recorded in an office room and it sounded as fresh as being live.
Granted they don't have 4 hours to fill - but - they are doing a solid 90~+ and not leaving me with a feeling of dread having to listen to it.
I like the format it's quick, funny, not something you feel obligated to tune into EVERY day or you'll miss something... they don't rely on live callers to carry the show and are just having a good time shooting the shit about whatever they want.

I started listening Wednesday and I'm hooked. Such a kick-back. The way O&A would be at times.

Dan Soder doing Racist Macho Man - "Don't like filipino's - No way"
Classic piece of radio that Old School WNEW O&A would have milked for 90 minutes - for these guys was a one liner.

If you look at it that way then, the last couple have been particularly good. I thought the first few were hit and miss.

It would be good if they brought guests on, like all of there young comedian friends. Luis, Dave, Nate Bargatze etc.

They're both great but that picture of them makes me want to throw gas on their bonfire.
