Bobby: "How's the ratings?" Soder: "They don't have those." Bobby: "I know."

Talking about Soder's new SiriusXM show, on the latest YKWD episode.
Past Opie (when the show was good and there wasn't much criticism): "We don't know how many people listen. There's just no way of finding that out."
Present Opie (when the show is terrible and is constantly criticized): "It's changed. Management have shown me the numbers, and they're up. The audience is really growing."
The Opester's lies are more transparent than Jimmy's attempts at befriending celebrities.

Oh come on!! You know that the Opester is well liked by management. They give him the numbaaaaahs. They can't hide shit like that from the Candy Kid.

Management problem does like the new direction of the show. Doesn't make the show less shitty. They aren't controversial anymore. It's regular radio plus swearing now.
2 joomommyhappy 2015-08-11
Either management showed them to him, or he used his mafia back-channel connections to get them.

ME: We have 20,000 new subscribers.
ME: We don't see numbers.

How would SXM even get numbers?
The radio units aren't equipped to track listening habits. They are all made by different manufacturers, some are in cars, some are streaming through mobile. The capability isn't even in the hardware.
The only "numbers" the would see would be from Neilson ratings, and they don't specifically mention SXM, let alone specific shows on the forms.
2 mrnonsenseny 2015-08-11
I believe they can track the on-demand numbers too.
2 omninode 2015-08-11
Maybe SXM have a way of surveying listeners, like their own private Nielsen system?
1 EskimoEscrow 2015-08-11
I'm almost 100% sure they don't. I just did a Nielsen survey, in it they said you could mention any radio you listen to (including satellite). This tells me SXM is paying Nielsen for those stats, and therefore don't have their own system.
1 omninode 2015-08-11
Then it seems crazy that they don't have a way to get Nielsen to estimate what channels people are listening to.
1 EskimoEscrow 2015-08-11
I imagine they get some numbers, but they aren't very reliable numbers, since they're dealing with such a small sample size. So, whatever stats they do get, they don't pass them along to the advertising dept., and definitely not to any show hosts.
1 Pat_Battle_Storage 2015-08-11
Back when it was just XM I used to get a listener survey once in a while. The one I remember, Opie & Anthony weren't even listed on it.
Sirius never sent me anything. They don't give a fuck.

How does satellite tv collect 'numbahs?"
1 molloybe 2015-08-11
Wouldn't the "numbers" be subscribers to their channel? It's a separate thing you have to subscribe to, right?
5 EskimoEscrow 2015-08-11
I guess they could look at how many people bought the "premium" package, but that includes other shows than just Opie's.
1 molloybe 2015-08-11
Ahh, ok. I thought it was just for their channel.
1 Ptone79 2015-08-11
I think you get the channel for free on the XM side.
1 ckb614 2015-08-11
Can't they track online streaming? And on-demand downloads? And then just extrapolate
1 EskimoEscrow 2015-08-11
All guesswork here, but I'd imagine they would've built an internal counter into their On-Demand system to literally count every click, (although, since their software is so shitty, I wouldn't be surprised if they failed to do that).
Same with online streaming, they probably see page clicks, length of time on the page, ect... but can't see any real data (what show/channel you're listening to, how often you change channels, ect..)

We have some Opie-level intelligence here.
It's tracked off the satellites, not the individual receivers. They can track demand to a single user, and they refuse to use it to their advantage. SXM is using a cable model for their pricing packages. Instead of paying for the channels people want specifically, like $3 a month for 70s/80s/90s/Lithium, they charge $21.95 a month so people can receive the CBC broadcast in French and 80 other channels people don't listen to.
This is not to mention that they pay DJs to do absolutely nothing.
2 2reel5libtard_guy 2015-08-11
If they can't track that shit how they suppose to know if a person is a sub or just stealing singal
2 Luuvstewspewg 2015-08-11
His responses are like the same when you have to watch a training video.
2 jakdak 2015-08-11
Its not that they don't see the numbers- its that the numbers simply don't exist.
Outside of the internet app and explicit user surveys there is nothing in the satellite radio technology that lets them know what satellite feed is being consumed.
2 majestik6 2015-08-11
Sirius stopped paying for Nielsen ratings a few years ago. This makes sense; why would you pay for ratings when you have a monopoly?
But I was surprised to notice that they've begun paying for Nielsen ratings on a handful of channels. OpieRadio is not one of them :

Relevant: posted this yesterday from an old clip.
Opie says here that he's seen Ellis' numbahs and he isn't doing well
I remember they vehemently denying that anyone could see listening figures any time someone shit on their show.
Opie's constant lying means he says whatever the most convenient "truth" would be in these situations.
2 DRIPSCBW 2015-08-11
The numbers are getting better every week. PERIOD.
3 TacoTrots 2015-08-11
Yeah, IN THE END, they really are. But good luck telling the HATERS that. FFFFFFFUCK!
No matter what you sa...ARGH...WHATEVER. ... ... ... I was just going to say that no matter what you tell the them, the HATERS always (something, something Twitter voice).
2 chris2webby 2015-08-11
you captured the essence of Opie perfectly
1 mattirawks 2015-08-11
When Opie mentions the numbers, it's clear he's winding up the haters.
16 DapperDan0979 2015-08-11
He thinks he's a brilliant troll. When in actuality he's a buffoon.
14 MonsteRain 2015-08-11
I think he's just a compulsive liar.
1 NotInsane 2015-08-11
With the app, its probably now possible to extrapolate numbers.
1 AntsCamera 2015-08-11
I call bullshit, whatever Opie says is fucking gospel, and you HAAAAATERS, should show some fucking respect.
P.S: Hi Opie. Retweet me Pleez?
1 theronskier1 2015-08-11
Knowing Tits McGee lies should be common sense at this stage.
-8 opieanthonyjim 2015-08-11
Congrats you solved the case.
Soder's show and been on the air for 3 weeks and he's right, they don't have traditional ratings. Although i don't think it's insane that opie would have access to certain numbers that Soder doesn't.
5 joomommyhappy 2015-08-11
No, it's not, but what is insane is the notion that the numbers are good/up.
2 opieanthonyjim 2015-08-11
Oh I completely agree with that. The show I trash.
-12 CUNTYMOM 2015-08-11
OMG WHAT A LIAR! who gives a shit if he lied about that, you guys sound like gawker or some stupid website.
hens you people are
