He had a beer once in the 80s still going to AA meetings and battling his demons from that

It's cringeworthy when a real 30 year alchy comes on the show. Recently last week there was a guy ..that music dude who knew everyone ...and he's going on about his 'wild days' and saying stuff like 'you know Norton' ...it's so embarrassing. .no James doesn't know ...he got a bit too drunk as a teenager (didn't we all) ..he knows nothing about living a crazy wild lifestyle as a real alcoholic.

Saying that gives him just the right amount of Lenny Bruce he's looking for in himself

Ughh. That lil larva LOVES saying "battled addiction" and "im sober" as much as Gregg loves saying "documenchree'.

Give it another 6 months with Opie and he'll be back on it

Trying Heroin and being strung out on it are two different things. No one has cravings after just trying it. Those who have had a habit and needed it to function are the ones that will never shake the cravings or little voice inside that says "just do it this once".

I never understood heroin. I did some, and it made me feel itchy and pukey and hungry as fuck even though I was full. So I went to the horses mouth, so to speak, and got the cleanest shit possible. And it was even worse.

Plus the micronaps. When I take drugs it's to AVOID that kind of shit.

Obviously there's something to it, so many people love it, but I just don't see it. It seems so boring. I went from not having ever done heroin, to actively disliking it.

I don't think anybody could possibly be addicted after just doing it a few times. Everybody told me that I just had to do it more to get on board, so my experience with it is maybe not abnormal.

You can't understand a junkie unless you've been one. Junkies don't use heroin to cover up some sad life event - that's just something non-users utilize to explain why someone would go that route, as well as an excuse that users give to avoid the true reason. The true reason: they like using. Yes, once you get dependent you will get sick and use just to stay afloat, but still - they like getting high.

How do I know this? Because I was one. And only junkies tell the blistering truth to other junkies (because we're all in on it).

Even now, recovered for many years, there's a part of me that honestly says "The greatest moment in my entire life was the first time I shot up."

The mentality is truly impossible to understand unless you've been there.

Oh I understand junkies. I just don't get heroin itself. I don't enjoy it at all.

Consider yourself a lucky guy, very much so. If you tried it and didn't fall in love with it, then just continue to stay away.

I notice that there are generally three types of drug addicts: those that only use uppers, those that only use downers, and those who use every thing they can get their hands on. Sounds like you don't fall into the latter two categories - I wouldn't play with fire and find out if you might be in the first category.

The safest way to make sure you aren't a habitual user is to never use the first time when it comes to the big three: coke/crack, crank, and smack.

But hey, bath salts? Hell yeah, use that shit all day! Get loaded and eat somebody's face!

Jimmy got drunk when he was 15 and made some prank calls. He was a real problem.

I don't remember him saying he did H. He did say he did crack a few times which makes sense because crack was popular in the 80's. Heroin was around back then but not like it has been the past 15 years or so.

Someone with a real substance abuse issue called his advice hour and asked if his shits were watery when he was abusing alcohol and his response was "I really don't remember dude."

Would you remember how your shits looked for a few days in the late 70s?

Didn't he get sober at like 20? What a pussy.
