Anthony said he wanted to have a public forum. I think this is because he's scared of Opie 1-on-1 for some reason just like he admitted about Bill Burr.
Opie said he wanted a private discussion. I think this was A) because he knew he would be blown away in a public discussion and B) because he wanted to tell Anthony that they might be able to get him back if he went to rehab or apologize or something, but didnt want to say it on the radio.
No inside info just being a speculative queeb because i'm bored

I think it basically just comes down to the fact that Opie was trying to handle a real issue between them like a normal human being, and Anthony calculates every moment in his life to pander to anonymous people on the internet.
Anthony has stated that he doesn't love anyone. I'm sure that translates into being completely detached from any real feelings about anything. To him....everything is radio. Everything is for the 'show'.
The Greggshells episode was the defining moment of that.

Muting emotions with alcohol and drugs isnt the same thing as being a sociopath.

Sure, he's generous with his stuff when people come over, but that's cause he's extremely wealthy and doesn't think it's ever going to run out. He doesn't think love exists. They had a complicated personal relationship, which is inevitable after a 20 year business partnership. If they were going to legitimately work out their issues, it would have had to be done off air. Any on air argument would have just been a pissing contest.
