I like the LoS guys. But the fact you feel the need to constantly defend his roast performance says somethin

It's basically like parents praising their shitty kid when their softball team comes in dead last.

You did your best champ. We're proud of you.

If the definition of "bombing" is to be taken as absolute, meaning zero laughs, then Anthony did not bomb by that definition. I think most of us took the many lulls in his set and equated it to "bombing", which may have been incorrect according to the traditional definition. Even if you disagree, you can't fault them for their opinions on the matter. They were in the room, and they've seen more people bomb as working comics than we (as a collective) most likely have.

You know you're on the right side of an argument when you have to semantically redefine and reframe what you're talking about like an ACLU lawyer.

That's more or less how Luis defined "bombing" before he and Dave addressed Anthony's set. "Bombing" in this context is more of a colloquial term, I'm not sure if there is a formal definition for the word in this sense. If you were to accept Luis' definition, Anthony did not bomb because he had a couple good lines and did get some laughs here and there. I don't think you can necessarily say that they are wrong because they're taking "bombing" as an absolute, while the general consensus of this sub has taken it to simply mean a poor performance. I don't think they are necessarily "redefining" the term, I believe most comics view "bombing" in that vein of a black and white principle. When comedians have told "bombing" stories on O&A they always seemed to involve getting booed and not being able to finish their sets, neither of which happened to Anthony.

tl;dr: I don't believe they redefined the term "bombing", I think they just view it differently than the majority of this sub.

there were many lulls in his set but not a lot of lols.

so im gonna go kill myself now

the haters....oof

you know you bombed when your guys spend half an hour saying you didn't bomb.

And that Smith cunt was shit at the roast as well.

Big Jay needs to cut this pair of amateurs loose.

Dave did fine, especially for someone as unfunny as himself.

How is the Real Ass Podcast generally, is it worth listening to if you're a Legion of Skanks fan?

Can't speak for the podcast in general, but the episode "I'm Right, You're Wrong" is worth a listen if you're into hearing real conflict.

Yea its pretty good. More of a straight up interview show or like a certain topic.

I love it. If you like Luis, you'll like this. The last couple of episodes were good. Post podcast war and the day after the roast.

I've been digging the last few episodes. Dave Smith's politics podcast is great too.

"this is the first time ant did something like this."

OK, but who fucking cares? A bomb is a bomb. You can excuse a bomb because it's his first time, but you can't say that he DIDN'T bomb and then say it's his first time. What's the rationale behind explaining that it's his first time, if he didn't bomb. If he killed, people would say "wow, he fucking killed and it was his first time."

Just admit that he bombed.

Fuck that dude.

Dace suggests that everyone (everyone except 4 people) that think ant bombed, don't know what they're talking about because they don't know anything about comedy. I guess you need to be special to laugh at something.

They both make stupid points. "Is it possible luis knows more about performing and has a better understanding of what happened?" Er whatever. Sure, he knows more about performing than i do, but i fucking have ears, and what i heard was unfunny ranting. I like o+a comics and associates comics so it's not like i dont get your style of humor. My opinion is just as valid. And 'this was ant's first time...' So what? He went up and bombed. Now he gets to hear about it. Worse thing is Ant has been losing clout for awhile now and the roast could have been a good way to bounce back but it was just more of the same: lazy, redundant, racist shhhhhhettttt

That guys voice in that ad about smoking was enraging.

A bunch of nobodies on reddit know more about stand-up comedy than 10 year pros. Right.

All they're saying is that he didn't bomb the way you guys think he bombed. Luis admitted that Ant had some clunkers that didn't go over at all, but he also said that he had some decent jokes that were well received by the room. Which is true. He also said that he's been toying with you guys on his twitter and of course you proved him right.

I know this will get downvoted because it's perfectly reasonable and rational, but whatever. All they're saying is that you guys have been over-analyzing Ant's set and overreacting to it. They're just trying to give you some actual perspective and context.

Yeah, let's pretend "bomb" is a precise technical term with a meaning so narrow that even Colin at Deniro's birthday party doesn't really qualify. That'll save him.

"Bomb" is just stage slang for "failure." Every set but Metzger's was a failed set. There were some laughs, Vecchione stumbled through something like ten thousand good jokes, and the vets all showed competence. Did anybody's highlight reel get a second longer? No. Because if you isolated any of those sets and labeled them "bomb" you wouldn't be wrong.

Anthony failed more than everybody else did (combined), more than anyone I've ever seen—and I've seen Andrist come on so fucked up he did a half hour with no sentences in it. Still kinda funny. Watching Anthony, I was just glad I wasn't him.

Every set but Metzger's was a failed set

Now you're just being silly.
