They were pretty good when it was just Jim, Anthony, and Opie. At least in the beginning. Without the comedians they relied a lot on wacky stunts, abusing Stalker Patty, along with denigrating other "show characters" like Big A and Twitchels. Conversation at this point with the three of them was about Ozzie, favorite metal bands, etc.

Once Patrice started doing the show, along with Bill Burr, and Louis CK, the show became way better. The conversations became way better. It was definitely the high point of the show. The best part was when they mixed really good comedians. So when Patrice was on with Louis CK or Bill Burr you knew it would be a good show.

It might seem like people deify Patrice and Louis, but you can't deny how good the shows were with them. I'd say that's how the majority of the folks on here got hooked.

The Erock stuff was such a crutch. Along with the wack-pack wannabe Stern shit. They legitimately tortured Stalker Patty for no real reason.

What they had in the beginning of XM wasn't those lame hack bits, it was camaraderie. They actually liked each other back then or else faked it really fucking well. Then the really good comedians started to seep into the show (mainly Patrice, Louis, Burr).

Then they got back on FM radio, stopped giving a fuck about XM. Switched to Sirius, Patrice died, Billy and Louis stopped doing the show, and everyone stopped listening. Now we just have the shitty shell of a show that once was along with an insane man that does podcasts.

The rough thing now is listening to the old shows and really hearing how awful Opie actually was on the show back in the day. He regularly interrupted a good flow with dumb fucking callers to simply exert his power. He bombed constantly trying to mimic Ant's great impressions (like Vince McMahon). Basically it's like listening to a retard try and hang out with the cool, funny kids.

To be honest, I laughed a lot at that, but after I realized how sensitive Opie was, and how busty he is, and how ALL this heavy fire went Erock's way, and Opie couldn't take a poke, a fucking jab, without exploding, it kinda started irritating me.

I don' think anyone has claimed that Patrice, Louis, or anyone other than Ant and Jimmy to a much lesser extent made Opie a millionaire (along with a ton of luck, as Opie's talent for producing shock jock type radio came along at the right time towards the end of the shock jock era).

What Patrice, Louis, Burr, Vos, Kelly, and the rest of those guys did was provide O and A with a ton of content during their XM pre-CBS era and beyond.

Without that content they may have had a lot harder time getting that CBS deal and that CBS exposure helped them gain a new audience that certainly helps them to today.

Had O and A not had the access to the comedic talents and it was just O and A and Jimmy and typical guests; they might not have been able to rebuild the show on XM.

So while their WNEW careers had already taken off, O and A got a lot of content towards the WNEW end and in early XM when they most needed it as well as through that CBS run and to this day.

Gotta admit, I found o&a through the k rock years when they simulcast to wbcn in boston. I knew they existed from their waaf tenure but I was young when they got fired from there, but I got right into them when they started broadcasting from my regular station. I was a stern fan before o&a came to k rock

I have no clue where this post is coming from...I've been avoiding this sub for a while.

But O&A were multi millionaires back in their FM Days. It's not even up for debate. That's how it went down. And Patrice and Louis were nowhere to be seen back then.

I listened to many years of OnA live, from like 2011-2014. And I've listened to hundreds of hours on youtube, not just Patrice and Louis. But I will admit that their appearances were probably my favorite thing about the show. They really balanced the show out and created alot of memorable debates by contradicting Anthony or Jimmy. I also don't like listening to old shows that much before like 2006. It just sounds kinda dated and weird. So the era when Louis and Patrice were regulars was my favorite even when they weren't there.

what does is matter? a lot of the shows before that era, the "shock jock" days are really dated and almost unlistenable

I'm 35 now, but was a new Paramedic in NYC in 1999 & wondered about these duct-tape WOW signs on the backs of Con Ed trucks & the like. My partner put on 102.3 & the rest is history. I've listened almost every day to these guys trying to make us laugh & on slow days pouring their most intimate personal moments out to fill time. Hate Opie... Hate Anthony... God forbid hate Jimmy. None of us knew who was who when we first started listening. They were absolute nobody's... Long Island & NJ trash who were given a shot. Don't forget where we all started. For some, the dial went too far past 101.9 on Scan. For others, they found syndication when Spaz learns how to drive. Stop & think. When was the first time you heard the boys?

The only pieces of O+A I've listened to are, like you said, some Patrice and Louis CK, and a shittonne of other celeb interviews, as well as drama concerning Ant and Opie (and to a lesser extent the worm) specifically.

The obsessive nature people here have over the show is completely foreign to me. What I find the most interesting is how people seem to genuinely care about and find humour in characters like E-rock, and the others (can't think of any other show staff right now). They are literally nothing. They're bland nobodies. There's hours of material on YouTube dealing specifically with situations concerning E-rock and I'm like "Really?".

I find Ant interesting and funny. I don't mind Opie. I find Jim Norton to be a total faggot on every level, and a phony, and I only occassionally find him funny. I care nothing about being a true O+A fan, whatever that means. I'm just here to hang.
