I think Anthony has built up enough of a core audience of like-minded individuals that he will always have a strong and steady source of income from his show and he probably could live out the rest of his life in the enclosed pool area of his white trash mansion. I don't think he's in danger of running out of money, but he certainly isn't getting anything near that SXM level of money he was getting. He can probably sustain what he has right now.
However, he is never going to build a bigger audience. He has no name recognition, he is toxic to the entertainment industry as a whole, and he really has nothing to offer that would entice the average person to subscribe to his show. Which helped when he had strippers and stuff like that on the show. He also had a multi-camera seteup, with defined camera angles, none of which had Howard STARING DIRECTLY INTO THE CAMERA. Holy shit, I cannot stress enough how off-putting that is with Anthony. Howard was smart enough to have a cool set that he changed over the years and work the elements into his show that worked better on camera and it added a new dynamic for him. Do you know how strange it would have been if it was just Howard talking to himself in his mansion while staring at you and not interacting with anybody besides maybe someone off screen once in a while?

Not really, there's a lot of resentment there. For about 6 months Anthony gave the befit of the doubt on trying to fight for him only to find out that Opie had already contemplated splitting the show(which the company did for him). Not only that but to keep saying this is what Anthony wants(to make sure people didn't hate him for not boycotting for Anthony to come back).
For me it's really easy about Opie. He's not that talented on air(he did network well for relationships for the show), he abuses his power(as in letting his coworkers/cohosts wonder if the show was going to continue), loves to rip other people/shows yet can't handle criticism himself. Something NOBODY is talking about that i've seen is this interesting situation that's popped up that Opie has started adding podcasts pretty quickly to his "channel" and I'd have to think he's directly competing with Anthony on things like "Race Wars" and maybe some other podcasts(LOS?).

I completely disagree with the assessment that the HS show and O&J are "great talk shows". Opie can't even talk! He doesn't know anything about anything worth knowing about, and even if he did, he couldn't communicate it in a funny or interesting way.

In real radio, you're only as good as your last ratings book, you can be fired/laid off at any moment, if the company decides to switch formats (Which Mel K did ruthlessly when he was still working in traditional radio). The number of stations that hire have shrunk, or are now simply replaying tapes of syndicated shows.

I think Anthony has built up enough of a core audience of like-minded individuals that he will always have a strong and steady source of income from his show and he probably could live out the rest of his life in the enclosed pool area of his white trash mansion. I don't think he's in danger of running out of money, but he certainly isn't getting anything near that SXM level of money he was getting. He can probably sustain what he has right now.
However, he is never going to build a bigger audience. He has no name recognition, he is toxic to the entertainment industry as a whole, and he really has nothing to offer that would entice the average person to subscribe to his show. A normal person, who was not already an O&A fan, will never stumble upon his show, see a creepy looking old man hanging out in his house with white trash broads and some comics that maybe they have heard of or seen on an episode of Entourage or something, hear him ranting about guns and race and Obama AND see that it costs $7/month and be like "Man, I gotta get in on this!" It's not even so much about all of his crazy old man ranting that works against him. It's simply the fact that he isn't interesting. Who cares about King of Comedy references? Who cares about Ronald Reagan and Dice impressions? Who cares about his take on insert issue here? Old O&A fans and that's it. And they only care because they either remember when the show was funny and are trying to get that feeling back again or they are like-minded individuals who agree with Anthony on every issue and just want someone with a show to reaffirm their already existing beliefs about guns and black people. Those people seem to be dropping off, but he can still hang onto enough of them to continue his way of life for the most part, assuming he doesn't completely self-destruct.
But if you think Jim Norton is going to leave his real job that pays extremely well and requires a minimal amount of work and energy to go hang out with Anthony in his basement then you are fucking retarded. If Jimmy was going to joint Anthony he would have done it in October. But he didn't. He signed on that dotted line like the good little boy that he is and got a lot of that extra money that they had left over from when they fired Anthony and he couldn't be happier. Sure, he will visist his good friend Anthony once every few months, but join the show? Haha wake up. Anthony has proved since the launch of his show that it isn't going to be anything more than a paid version of Live from the Compound. Which, if you like that, that's fine, but it's not some revolution that he led many people to believe. He didn't learn anything. He didn't change his ways. Norton would have to be MORE insane than Anthony to walk away from the money he's making and the exposure he has at SXM. Hell, Anthony didn't even walk away from it, he was left with no other choice.

It really is off-putting because 1. he stares into the fucking camera 2. he's not a very presentable looking person and 3. he has nobody to bounce his thoughts off of. He will just do one of his "Is it reasonable?" or whatever other references, chuckle, and....that's it. It's strange watching a guy talking and giggling to himself while STARING AT YOU. He looks like a beta version of an AI that they haven't quite figured out yet.
And when he's not doing that, he's hanging out in his yard with his ugly loser friends and skanky broads. Again, who is that appealing to besides old O&A fans who already know him and are already infatuated with him and his lifestyle? Howard Stern's E! show worked because he didn't change the dynamic of the show. It was the same show, but now you could actually see it. Which helped when he had strippers and stuff like that on the show. He also had a multi-camera seteup, with defined camera angles, none of which had Howard STARING DIRECTLY INTO THE CAMERA. Holy shit, I cannot stress enough how off-putting that is with Anthony. Howard was smart enough to have a cool set that he changed over the years and work the elements into his show that worked better on camera and it added a new dynamic for him. Do you know how strange it would have been if it was just Howard talking to himself in his mansion while staring at you and not interacting with anybody besides maybe someone off screen once in a while?
Anthony just thought "visual element!" and didn't put any more thought process into it besides that.

Not really, there's a lot of resentment there. For about 6 months Anthony gave the befit of the doubt on trying to fight for him only to find out that Opie had already contemplated splitting the show(which the company did for him). Not only that but to keep saying this is what Anthony wants(to make sure people didn't hate him for not boycotting for Anthony to come back).
For me it's really easy about Opie. He's not that talented on air(he did network well for relationships for the show), he abuses his power(as in letting his coworkers/cohosts wonder if the show was going to continue), loves to rip other people/shows yet can't handle criticism himself. Anthony dealt with that for 20 years, it's going to take a long time to get all that out of his system.
Something NOBODY is talking about that i've seen is this interesting situation that's popped up that Opie has started adding podcasts pretty quickly to his "channel" and I'd have to think he's directly competing with Anthony on things like "Race Wars" and maybe some other podcasts(LOS?).
I do believe the move to the city will bring some hate from the Opie camp over the next year if Anthony's network starts to gain some ground(Anthony absoulutely needs a better corporate name than the Anthony Cumia Network).

i think we judge harshly because OnA was so great that O&J sounds terrible but if you never heard OnA and didnt have the OnA sense of humor than i guarantee that you would enjoy O&J. plus we are in the minority when it comes to humor, most people who can afford a nice car with sirius in it probably would like less of a racial rant type of show and more middle of the road.
it might not be for us but to think that ant will do better because he is more funny is just stupid and unrealistic, i give ant 3 years tops before he melts down, opie will do radio for maybe 20 years longer.

I completely disagree with the assessment that the HS show and O&J are "great talk shows". Opie can't even talk! He doesn't know anything about anything worth knowing about, and even if he did, he couldn't communicate it in a funny or interesting way.
Howard hides behind tradio bits, replay after replay of shit that wasn't funny the first time around, lame impressionists, and has his (hour-long+) interview questions written by interns and low-wage grunts.
I think more and more people will abandon these awful shows in favor of podcasts, and the broadcasting dinosaurs will be put out to pasture.
Just because Opie's been doing radio for decades, it's no guarantee that he'll be there for decades more. He's less than a year into broadcasting without Anthony by his side, and it's been an unmitigated disaster from a content and PR standpoint.
If content counts for anything, he's completely fucked.

Re-signing Opie and Jim last October, for MORE money, is a clear sign of how SXM thinks. They either don't have a clue that barely anyone listens to the show or they somehow think that Opie has enough name recognition to warrant the millions of dollars they pay him. They don't operate in reality.
But they have a miraculous deal with car makers to install their shitty service in new vehicles, so whether you listen or not, they get tons of money. I can't imagine it will last forever, but for right now, they have a shitload of money and they can do what they want with it. And they think Opie is worth keeping. And they will continue to keep him until they no longer exist.
Plus, you need to learn how the radio industry works. Unless you do something really fucking stupid, like Anthony, you will have a job for life. Get fired one place for something, you can get hired somewhere else. Nobody leaves radio. It's like an old timey good ol' boys club. You just have to know how to play the game and play by the rules and you will be fine. Opie proved last year that he will do whatever is told of him and keep his fucking mouth shut. Unless all of radio ceases to exist before he dies, he will be set for life. Keep the sponsors happy, keep management happy, and it won't matter that nobody is listening.

Not how radio works. And, for the record? Opie doesn't work in radio, he's on satellite, which traditional radio looks down on.
In real radio, you're only as good as your last ratings book, you can be fired/laid off at any moment, if the company decides to switch formats (Which Mel K did ruthlessly when he was still working in traditional radio). The suits wiped alt and hard rock off the airwaves in northern california years ago, and the jocks who were fired while on air, during breaks, have never returned to the air. The number of stations that hire have shrunk, or are now simply replaying tapes of syndicated shows.
Radio is probably one of the least stable professions to get into, as "talent".
Besides, I've never gotten the idea Ant wanted to deal with the radio world alone. It's a shit business, and I think he was done when they got fired from terrestrial last time.

This is literally impossible without listeners. The ad buys rule all, and without listeners, you don't sell ads.
The reality for Ant was, they didn't care what he did, as long as the press stayed away. Someone up top had an issue with him, when Ant fucked up, they threw the decision to Opie, who threw Ant right under the bus. If Ant had been pulling scary ad revenue like Howard, then he may have survived. Maybe - like I said, i think someone at the top had a grudge against him.
They explained it themselves - Sirius doesn't give a shit what's on each channel, and how many listen. They care about subs, that's all. It's a different business model than radio. Subs dropping will have more to do with Opie's next negotiation than anything, subs dropping overall, not just for the channel, and if they want his bandwidth on the channel for a bigger name.
The suits and lawyers won. They've been trying to get control of the channel since Siruis took over - they now have utter control over Opie.
They always win. They have the money to force the win. Opie is no different than anyone else, a big paycheck makes things like loyalty and integrity meaningless.

Now, if they cancel O&J, that's another story. Opie will find work in some other station. He might lose a significant amount of money, but he will still be making a nice salary and would probably end up as a program director or something. Jimmy would do whatever he thinks is best for his career...and that ain't joining Anthony. He will keep touring, take bit parts from his friends, maybe a reoccurring role here and there, anything, but he won't join Anthony. He knows that would kill his career. He might not be a Kevin Hart-level name, but he has a loyal audience and enough sense not to fuck that up.

I thought the general consensus here was that Jimbo's earning about half a mill per year? The question is could Ant afford Jimmy? How many subs and ads would it take to cover that every year? It's a drop in the ocean to SXM but not to Ant out there all alone.

CJimmy makes 6 figures at least. If ant paid more then Sirius he would be broke in a couple of years. Property taxes, utilities, mortgage, his staffs salary means he is paying tens of thousands a month. Also he has gambled away a lot of money and financially supports may women. He may be rich but his funds are gushing out like a broken dam.
