When you listen to this, keep in mind that Opie said when he first met Anthony he didn't even have a car and had to use the company van to get around, and NOW listen to how he speaks about working slobs who are just trying to get by.

Had high school dropout Anthony never met Opie, he'd BE one of the people he thinks are so beneath him. I'm not saying he wasn't a funny motherfucker, but a huge component to him getting to where he is was 'right place, right time'. It was the right place for him to meet Opie. It was the right time during the shock jock era.

Anthony is the living embodiment of a Cinderella story. But he's actually deluded himself into believing it was ALL Anthony that pulled himself out of the tin knocking van to radio stardom.

The more success you have the more you chalk it up to your own hard work, as opposed to any of the infinite variables that aren't under your control.

I think it's a combination of both, there's some quote that's like "success is where luck meets perseverance" or something. But that's the thing, prior to the gig it didn't seem like Ant set his sights on being a radio guy like that. You hear about comedians who get a break after 17 years, but the story of Ant sounds like he had a shitty Log Island comedy band and sincerely did luck out, there was no dues being paid in that sense.

I loved how all of Ant's predictions about Obama were pretty much wrong. He really didn't do too much other than window dressing for black people. Other than Obamacare he didn't radically change any aspect of our society (And Obamacare was crafted by corporations).

Obama is a politician and a very pragmatic one at that. He maybe gave the country 2-3% of change but Ant to this day acts like it was some hostile takeover and that his life is somehow radically different because of any policy Obama had done.

Ant's taxes went up a small percentage after about 3-4 years after Obama extended his tax break (And if he has a good accountant we are talking about 1%) and he is paying a little more for healthcare (Relative to his income not much). He still has his guns and all that other shit he thought was going to change didn't.

Yeah if you look at paying a little more in taxes and healthcare it might be annoying, esp if you don't feel like the government is spending money wisely. But if you hear Ant speak it's such a huge disconnect from reality. If you only heard Ant speak about Obama you would think Ant is several moments away from being put in some internment camp and having everything he owns be redistributed to black people.

thought I'd heard all the Ant, Patrice debates then I come across this gem, allahu akbar

dl is kind of an idiot. patrice asked him about the political candidates' political positions and he just steamrolled him in his stupid rant about "respect". he claims to not trust any politicians. wow. what a stand. incredible insight from DL right there. he talks in empty words.
