So you can hit the "skip ahead" button til you hear the theme song & it's fine. Many times while listening to O&A, I thought to myself "this show would be so much better if Opie was replaced by someone with even minimal, serviceable comedic chops". Even someone who isn't funny but understands comedy well enough to know how to be a straight man to Ant's impressions and diatribes.
They wouldn't even have to be above average, just a journeyman talk radio DJ who knows how not to get in the way (a la Gregggg Hughes), when to take calls, and when to reel in Ant when it's getting boring.
Unfortunately it's seeming less and less likely that that will happen. Here's a free way to improve the show: Do 5 one-hour episodes per week. Two hour episodes are too much for one guy to handle.
The racial/gun talk is mostly filler that he uses as a crutch if he has nothing else to talk about. Going from 8hrs/wk to 5hrs/week will hopefully reduce it. Also, get rid of the "who gives a shit?" guests. Only have quality guests on, or nobody at all.

They don't need the money - they're working because they like to work.
Gavin likely made enough money off the Vice deal to retire at the age of 40. He's not working because he needs to.
Right now Vice is valued at $2,500,000,000. If Gavin got even 10% of that, then he's worth a quarter of a BILLION dollars.
Again, I've met some guys like this, and they just stumbled into it. I worked with a dude who came to work one day and found out that he was a multimillionaire. He was literally punching a clock, but owned part of the company, and got seven figures overnight.

I don't want to get into all the boring legal crap, but basically there are tons of people who've been fired from positions like this, but kept their equity position in the company.
It's not like they fire you and cut you a check for a million dollars;

Gavin intentionally, voluntarily left Vice when they signed their first big corporate sponsorship deal. It was either for VBS.tv or the Motherboard deal they signed with Dell. Gavin left of his own accord because he still bought into the "punk" ideology about "selling out", and thought the people he started Vice with were compromising their vision to make money.
He intentionally not only took a pay cut, but took a big risk going out on his own to start Street Boners, and gave up his stake in his "baby", for which he was the single strongest editorial voice, all because he's a man of integrity and principles.
He isn't a hypocrite or a sell out, and he sacrificed many millions of dollars to prove it. You guys can call Gavin all the names you want, but at least know your shit before you run your mouth. He has bigger balls than any of you, and more integrity and probably more money. He's rich, creatively fulfilled, and spends his life trading in the marketplace of ideas. To call him a failure is just a stretch based on ignorance

We all know the one thing Ant needs to make his show listenable. We all know Opie was holding him back all those years with the lack of talent and active subversion of attempts at humor by Ant and anyone else.
Many times while listening to O&A, I thought to myself "this show would be so much better if Opie was replaced by someone with even minimal, serviceable comedic chops". Even someone who isn't funny but understands comedy well enough to know how to be a straight man to Ant's impressions and diatribes.
They wouldn't even have to be above average, just a journeyman talk radio DJ who knows how not to get in the way (a la Gregggg Hughes), when to take calls, and when to reel in Ant when it's getting boring.
Unfortunately it's seeming less and less likely that that will happen. Maybe Ant is so blinded by narcissism that he thinks that any interruptions are hindrances to his genius; maybe he's paranoid from years of working with a show-stopping bore and thinks he can't trust anyone else to have his best interests at heart. Who knows? But it's clear to me that the one thing that could drastically improve the show is a cohost of even minimal talent, but for some reason, Ant seems dead set on having his show be the 4-hour poorly-structured unlistenable race crime variety show, instead of realizing he needs an editor in studio to act as a surrogate for the audience and let him know that maybe 3 hours is too much race stuff, Mr. Cumia, maybe the fans would like to hear something funny, sir.

Here's a free way to improve the show: Do 5 one-hour episodes per week. Two hour episodes are too much for one guy to handle.
The racial/gun talk is mostly filler that he uses as a crutch if he has nothing else to talk about. Going from 8hrs/wk to 5hrs/week will hopefully reduce it. Also, get rid of the "who gives a shit?" guests. Only have quality guests on, or nobody at all.
