I fucking hate almost everyone on here. But I can't unsubscribe out of some morbid curiosity.

This place is fucking toxic, when I first came here more than three years ago, there was rarely an ill word spoken about any of the show staff (i.e. Danny, Roland) let alone the show members, after a while I began to see the occasional disparaging remark directed at Opie, but it was almost always downvoted to oblivion, fast forward to today, the sub has started to turn on Ant, something I thought I'd never see, and it's all gonna be downhill from here.

I started listening when Jimmy joined and the NY Message board was filled with people complaining about Jimmy ruining the show and ruining O&A's chemistry. Stern fans were saying they had to hire a comedian to write jokes for Opie and Ant. Boston listeners complained non stop that there were too many comedians and it ruined the show. Eventually the Jimmy haters left or grew to love him.

Then when they moved to XM, the WNEW fans and the other file trading sites began to complain that the show sucked because it was a morning zoo show and they only talked about politics and pop culture. It was a shell of its WNEW days. At the time the older fans blamed Opie because he was so angry at the time while Ant and Jimmy just made jokes the entire show. The old WNEW fans eventually moved on.

Then the message board wars started when Danny and Ant supposedly shared Dougout Doug's SS number to paltalk or something and FBA attacked Melinda with the Lobster Claws crap. FBA became the Ant hate site and Wackbag was pro-Ant/anti-Davey Mac. It got so bad Ronnie had a message board intervention and when Ant called to attack the FBA guy Ronnie scolded Ant for caring about message boards. Ant got sheepish but continued to dump out of FBA callers and banned people from the show. During this time the Ant hate was high and Opie love was at its highest. Jimmy would make a joke about Colin's SS number was 16 and people would type, "Oh! Jimmy just slammed Ant. You can hear how he hates him!" or "Opie is just a regular guy and Ant is a rich creep who turned into Stern!"

When they started the FreeFM show many XM fans quit and called them sell outs and would go to various websites to hate listen. The hosts were left alone for the most part because Danny was the gift that kept us all hating one person. Eventually the hate moved on to Roland.

Now after the firing people living in the echo chamber that is this subreddit are filled with Opie haters who are bored because Opie ignores the hate and does his show while Ant is turning into the bitter ex. They are mad because Ant dwindled away the sympathy we all had for him.

Most fans of the O&J show have moved on to twitter and ignore this site until Ant starts drama.

When this subreddit started it was a place for fans of the show who wanted to escape the hate at Wackbag. Now it's just another one of those hate sites where the crazy Opie haters ran off and down voted anyone who had a different opinion to twitter. The mob has turned because they do not understand Ant doesn't care what they want this is the type of show Ant wants to do. The fans want jokey Ant with sporadic political rants. He wants to be a political voice for the right who talks politics, guns and race with jokes sprinkled in.

I'm a fan of both shows will continue to listen to both.

TLDR: Fuck you it's a subreddit and not twitter. It's a cycle of fans coming on, falling off, coming back and most of us just staying on and hoping the old O&A returns and rises like a Phoenix.

Opie was awful after the move to free fm. I had just started listening maybe a year before the move. He basically wouldn't shut the fuck up about Howard. I swear for the first few weeks he was basically just gloating about how "o and a always win in the end" lolololol. Sure they do, hack cunt.

He does have a sort-of excuse. He has absolutely nothing else to offer in order to kill 20 hours a week. So he created an alternate reality where people actually give a shit about the radio industry and the interactions between personalities who work in it.

Pretty good summary, it's mostly what I remember. What caused Ant to give out Doug's ssn however? I thought FBA was already on the lobster thing and that pissed him off.

From what I remember Dugout Doug posted that Ant had a heart attack in the past. I think it was after the Fez loves Dawn bit. Fez said he loved Anthony's Sister Dawn and said he would fight the Cumia brothers to prove his love and Ronnie joked to the effect, "You and Anthony wrestling on the floor? What a stent fight that would be." The message boards exploded with the gossip that Ant had a heart attack during the time between NEW and XM. Ant went to war and started dumping out on FBA callers and banning members from the show. The Lobster Claws thing has been around since WNEW and it was mainly Stern fans who would bring it up to attack Ant. FBA members began to have photoshop contests during the "kerfuffle." It was really unfair to Melinda who seemed cool. If you can find it (maybe Spread the ONA Virus?) or youtube, she appeared several times with Ant on the Ron and Fez freeFM NY only shows and was giving Dave advice on how to date his now wife (Casey). They were both drunk and it showed her personality.

From what I remember it was Danny who supposedly gave the ssn out on Ant's paltalk but FBA members said that Ant had the number and gave it to Danny.

well, with the breaking of the show a breaking of the cohesion of the fans might have followed. not only among who liked what host better, but an overall dissolution of the connection between the individual fan and the show that used to exist.

since it no longer exists anywhere but on youtube, and the two hosts are going down radically different paths from where they once were, maybe it's just hard to see O&A as being anything close to what you first liked when you found them.

To be clear, I'm somewhat joking here. I'd argue that there are many other shows/podcasts that could better fill the role of O&J for you, but I have no problem with someone liking that show. Norton has always been my favorite and he's still hilarious.

i really don't see LOS as being what O&A used to be. Maybe when O&A did the roasts of their past shows when 6 people were fighting to get a line in but to me that is every LOS show i have listened to. i am not saying LOS sucks but it just isn't my thing and i don't know why people always compare it to O&A when it is completely different.

I want to respect a fan of The Wire, and yet your comments show me I can't. Ant got himself fired, Opie fought for him, but Ant became upset with Opie because apparently it wasn't hard enough. Opie not threatening to leave the show when Ant has said he would not do the same for Opie is not tantamount to Opie throwing Ant under the bus. If anything, Ant threw Opie under the bus by making a 2 hour dedication to Opie being difficult to deal with. The worst thing he could come up with was Opie holding out on signing the contracts trying to get them more money...what a bastard.
