which is what made the stangels hiring even weirder. every single show now is music/documenchree/weekend talk > news talk> boring guest interview. theres no room for a bit or anything even if they did write one.

"Is this it?" is actually the perfect name for this show.

It ended a long time ago ... even before Ant got fired. Sure, it'd still flare up every once in awhile and remind you of the greatness it once was, but this hasn't been radio worth paying for in years. I know many here (most?) don't pay a dime - but I'd rather spend my time listening to something entertaining than whatever this show has turned into.

Exactly. The last big bit they did outside the studio was the Canada trip where Opie complained about Sirius limiting the ability of the fans to take pictures.

They spent the travel budget on a new studio and Opie's sky mansion.

Opie's wife never liked him traveling for the show anyway (he always leaves for home immediately after or next morning while the crew stays for a few days... Cleveland, Chicago, Montreal)

And why would a non-comedy show go to a comedy festival anyway?

Someone has to watch the kids while Lynsi "runs errands".

Opie's "new direction" for the show is a death spiral.

I get that they don't want to do O&A stuff - most of it was funny because of Anthony.

But they have mailed it in for so long, way before Ant left, that they have no sense of what the show truly sounds like. They don't care. They don't do prep (haven't for years) they don't want to fuck around and do new bits, and they don't want to expand on the rare funny characters that Jimmy does.

They literally don't care - and they have no need for a direction. They're just a radio show that gets to say R-rated words and think that that will keep everyone happy.

They haven't given a shit for a very long time.

Man those Montreal shows were great. I remember the ones from like two years ago. They were busting Joe DeRosa's balls the whole time for jerking off to tranny porn. Fucking hilarious.

They peaked in relevance/fanbase loyalty at WNEW and O&A events after they got to XM were always massive disappointments. So they stopped doing them. An O&J live event is unfathomable. 3 people showing up to protest Anthony's firing tells you all you need to know about what an O&J audience would be like. They're rich and old, they don't need to subject themselves to that ego bruising.

I think this is a huge part. Pissed off fans making a huge scene over anthony.

I don't blame Opie for not wanting to do a live event.

You'll get five genuine fans and five people that want to yell shit and hate his guts.

I feel the age of the radio bit is over in general, no one really does them anymore. They have all been done to death anyway, do you really want to hear another 'staff eats something gross bit?' It takes true talent to do a good show without relying on bits/stunts, which O&J and TACS are now discovering.

Toucher and Rich in Boston do a radio "bit" basically every morning at 8AM. Some are hilarious and some fall flat, but at least they're trying to make good radio.

O&A or O&J or whatever have been mailing it in for a few years now. The magic ain't coming back.

Opie is trying as hard as he can to make it appear like it's just a hang and he doesn't give a shit. Multiple times a show he'll make comments like "fuck it! Toss some psycho killer up. Who gives a shit??" And calls it "this dumb radio show".

It's over, Johnny. The best we can hope for is a complete defection to tacs, while opie does a TMZ/Byron Allen crossover until Sirius goes belly-up

They didnt' do stuff before Ant got fired and they won't do stuff after. It's because Sirius is cheap.
