Opie, lacking any semblance of self-awareness, unironically discussing radio egos on Joe Rogan's show

Opie on JRE was one of very few times he didn't come across as a douche.

I agree. I'm listening to it and enjoying it, but this being the first thing he talked about really struck me as ironic.

Why can't he be like this on his own show? If his own work didn't contradict his words no one would have a problem. We can all accept that he's not a naturally funny guy if he'd just act like a normal human being.

Perhaps that can be some criticism we could give him that he would actually listen to. Act more like you did on JRE and we wouldn't be so damn annoyed. Chill out, be natural, subdued, and let the funny people be funny. Since on some level we are giving him credit for his JRE appearance it might overcome his so-called narcissism.

Agreed. I also don't think Opie is as bad on other people's shows either. Vos and Bonnie - Eric Nagel etc...he's far more laid back and better going with the flow.

He was good on YKWD a couple years ago too.

Idk what happens to the guy when he walks into Sirius

We all know a guy who when he puts on the hardhat it turns him into an asshole. If Opie were always Opie, the obnoxious moron he is on the show, he'd get beat down in the street every few days. But that never happens.

I'm not saying Opie is a character. It isn't. It's an act. It's Gregg being The Boss without knowing how, a brute parody. In the studio it's defensive lashing out and desperate grasping for "alpha" status, done out of in-over-his-head panic. In the halls it's brown-nose corporate weasel shit. Or so it seems.

That's all on the job. The "real" guy seems kinda OK.

I always thought Opie on JRE was one of the cool things he did. He was not in his "character" that day i guess.

Surprised no one's mentioning this. Notice how he said he doesn't have to be the funniest guy in the room. Yet, right after he says I'll still get the credit in the end. What a faygula.

I felt like I was hearing Opie in some alternative universe where he's not as bad as he is now. He's gotta realize that people want to see this side of him on the radio, not that tryhard gotta get Youtube views and do stupid "edgy" things on the radio trust fund baby Opie. Just be honest on the radio like he's always preached.

Opie, after Ant got fired, now has this affectation and inflection in his radio voice where he's attempting to come off as the funniest person in the room. Which actually shows Opie actually knows a lot less about radio than he think he does, if he actually knew as much as he say he does then he would know how awful he is.

It;s ironic because even though I love Joe that are both guilty of doing this exact thing. Joe loves talking over people on his podcast

He's talking about people having an Ego about needing to be the funniest person in the studio. Say what you want about Opie, I'll probably agree with you, but I don't think he tries to, or thinks, that he is the funniest person in front of the mic.

Definitely disagree with you there, and it was kind of my point that he comes across that way. I know I'm not in the minority as far as getting that impression.

If he were this laid back on his own show he wouldn't get 90% of the hate he gets. But I think his story is that he had a little toot of da MJ at Joe's, so whatever.

No, not the funniest in the room, he thinks he EQUAL to the funniest in the room. Which of course he's fucking not.

No, he does. If he didn't then he wouldn't have so many horrible jokes and attempts at humor. The guy is so delusional that deep down he actually does think he's on the same level as guys like Florentine and Vos, but if called out on it he'll continue to play the fake humility card.

HOLD ON HOLD ON!

Opie was very tolerable on JRE, it took me longer to hate him the way I do now than if he would've never done JRE at all.

He actually doesn't come off like a douche here, he sounds like a normal guy. Too bad he ignores his own advice.

Or maybe he really does need to start taking up weed (I assume he took a baby hit) if it makes him more down to earth like in this clip.

Why did he repeat 'philosophy on radio' in that voice?

That's not a famous phrase, no one uses that voice.

It was just laziness after a while on their part to have guests do all the talking.
