what is Sirius thinking?!

Thinking?

You assume too much, Satellite radio is the graveyard of old entertainment.

I cannot wait until podcasting overtakes old media, which I consider SXM, here's why.

They arrived on the tail end of radio dominance, before the internet, and wireless tech (smartphones, I pads) really took off.

The only thing they have to go by now is content, as you can log into your local stations stream in NYC, when you are in Idaho, they built a lot of their heat on coast to coast coverage, and a heavy catering to truckers. With internet streaming and podcasts, that is irrelevant.

Media now is more specialized, you want a science show you check out Neil Tysons podcast, you want history or politics, listen to Dan Carlin, you want funny, LoS, and Vos and Bonnie, Race Wars etc are there, for free.

The internet will destroy this business in time, due to the costs of maintenance of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of orbital infrastructure, which, let's face it, will fail in time.

Does this company seem like it thinks ahead to that scenario?

Sirius XM capability is in a lot of cars. Wifi is just starting to get into cars and isn't available on most models. XM has a few more years to hang around because of that. Over the next 10-15 years as more and more cars have wifi are on the road and less and less the cars that don't aren't, that's when newer tech like podcasts and truer internet radio will take over for both Sirius and Terrestrial.

Right now Sirius is just the transition. Satellite will be looked at as the bridge between terrestrial and internet radio. It was a method to get content uncensored and with limited commercials and uniformed content (The same stations everywhere) to a massive audience.

But with newer tech the whole thing is becoming a dated method.

You can't be Sirius, XM!
