What is the obsession with taking phone calls?

Almost always brings the show to a screeching halt when Opie goes to the phones. The callers for the most part are cringeworthy douches with no sense of humor who add nothing to the show. Almost every topic that is discussed you can hear Opie scanning through the phone call list for a call to take.

Also you get the feeling that Jim isnt a fan of the callers either, and rightfully so

I agree. Love the Nopie shows when Ant would take no calls.

Me too. But don't care for solo Ant having to be forced to take phone calls on TACS.

I stay a couple shows behind so I can download them and skip every second where the phone number is up on screen. (The stream chokes every five seconds anyway. Somewhere between my house and Anthony's the connection bottlenecks at two wires stabbed into a shitty diaper.) Sometimes the DON'T LISTEN IT'S CRAP signal is up for half the fucking show.

What I was most excited about when Anthony started his show was never hearing from any of "us" again. No matter how many times he says the same shit about a different Worldstar video, it's better than any open-line call in the history of radio.

I get why he takes calls. Usual reasons. But FUCK. It's not a goddamn radio show. Don't do radio shit. You're free.

It wastes valuable minutes. Opie can check his numbas and tug his peckah!

It's a crutch Opie has because he's (rightly) insecure about being in a conversation with some the funniest people in the world without being particularly funny himself. At least that's my guess.

They are horrible, it seems like old radio shit you'd learn in school like it keeps the listeners involved and an involved audience gets you numbers.

Give yourself a bell.

He does it when others are killing without him. It stops people from going, "Wait, what the fuck does he do again?"

"Quick! People are forgetting about me because I cannot keep up with genuinely funny things. I know! Blurt out interruptions and non sequiturs! Take a shitty phone call!"

{takes a shitty phone call}

"FFFFFFUCK I AM GOOD! When the best stand up comedians in the country are killing, I take a call from Donnie in Topeka! Now that is how you steer a ship!"

It's like it something you would learn from Brother Wease.

Opie isn't quick witted enough to come up anything on his own so he takes calls to let you know he's still in the room. It's the same reason he relies on reading instant feedback so much.

An affirmation that at least a few people are still listening

Chuck in North Carolina, where you at with taking calls?

What I don't get is that TACS callers are a little better than O&J's but Bennington callers almost always deliver. They know when to get out, they know when they are on.

Do Janice and Hard Rock Johnny call Bennington? They were awful on Ron and Fez.

Yes. Ron and fez has better callers yes. But opie doesn't leave people on just so we can hear their God awful laugh. Janice is the fucking worst.

if someone else is talking, oqie doesn't need to. lazy fuck.

Opie still thinks he's doing local rrrrrrrrrrrrradio.

calls make up a pretty large part of the show nowadays, so I think its a pretty legitimate query

O&J take far more calls than O&A ever did. I have just noticed that the show comes to screeching halt more often than not when a caller rings up and tries to be "part of the show". Sorry for trying to discuss the show on a forum for discussing the show

Someone misses chuck

Because Opie picks a phone call to change the subject when he can't contribute to a good conversation. Ant and Jimmy would be talking about a funny subject, then you would hear Tits in the background "hold on!"
