SiriusXm isn't a feature on trucks like autos. Truckers have to get permission from their company to buy an antenna and receiver to install on the cab. Then, they have to pay for the sub themselves.

A very large (and important) percentage of subscribers are housewives and soccer moms, who just keep paying for it out of habit.

Oprah, Martha, O'Donnell, now Jenny. And other folks.

its still good, lots of music and always at least something interesting, if you drive large stretches of highway you realize fast radio and cellphone signals do not work well in many places, but satellite surprisingly does , me , i download podcasts , i feel like most truckers wouldn't be that tech saavy (and so satellite is good for them) though im sure that is changing very fast and my view is outdated

The shitty punctuation and odd spacing in your comment certainly confirms that you are indeed a fat fucking trucker.

No offense

my fat fingers fit nice up your sister's twat

did they let you keep your tools when you graduated "college"?

Or a trucker can't be thumbing around on their cell phone to select the next podcast to listen to. I don't want to be, and I don't have 30,000 lbs behind me and my job on the line if I got into an accident for distracted driving.

It's pretty easy "Siri, play Bangton." "Sure thing Budday...Playing Bangton."

You know that they each last an hour or more, and can be set so as one ends the next one starts automatically? I believe that's the default on the apple podcast app, if that isn't too fancy.

Lady trucker don't ask for no fucking permission.

My company has a 30 000 truck fleet, all the new ones have xm receivers with lifetime subscriptions.

This is the only reason I continued to listen post Ant. Now I have a audible subscription to #Bangton and haven't listened since.

I was gonna say this. OP is misinformed. Many trucks come with SXM radios and subs all ready to go.

If you don't want to say, please pm me, 30k trucks? Possibly orange and begins with S?

I wasn't thinking about them, you guys are much more varied than the average trucking company.

Out of curiosity can the OTR break atv the LTL terminals? Seems like that would be a real plus in many instances as they ate everywhere

I'm sure they could, especially when dropping a load. If I run out of hours they put me up in a hotel, it's a great company to work for.

Some terminals are better for scoring a good run, others you to have to put in years just to get a good bid. Plenty of drivers work straight midnights only doing dock work and switching trailers.

You must do LTL, I see your OTR's have sleepers. I tried to get on once, got a run around about no trucks and check back in a few months, lol I needed a job then. I work for US Xpress, it's ok. They won't pay for XM so you've certainly got me beat

Yeah LTL cross border, midnights. I do a few hours of dock work. I'm home every night so that's nice.

Interesting, I disliked going to Canada. Suppose if it's in and out that would be ok. I don't dislike Canada, customs is not fun though and possibly US is worse to come back in than Canada to enter

I'm Canadian so it's the opposite for me, US customs is a pain. Been stuck for up to 8 hours being being unloaded. Having to split my set sucks. Fortunately we get paid for a border times.

I think we agree, US customs is the worst. Although Canada did criminal background can me once that took forever and then tossed my sleeper looking for cigarettes. I don't smoke and had never considered smuggling them for extra money.

You Guys have a slightly different set of rules, met some guys in Laredo once who said even over the road they got a day off and couldn't believe we didn't

Do you run a lot of miles?

I do 1500 to 3500 a week average is about 2400 or about 10k in a month - used to have a coast to coast drop and hook, did almost 150,000 miles, that year or about 240,000km if you're metric

You mean my physical? No, I get one every year since I have sleep apnea, we use doc in a box, forget the name, it's a regional health care service

Huh?

ME: i wish I had those numbahsssss

I've never had to ask permission to have a radio in my truck - possibly some anal retentive company might have this as rule, most companies are only concerned with moving freight

[deleted]

Your remark was all.

I've never had to ask and I've worked at several companies since XM began. I have many friends in the industry, none have ever needed permission. Every truck I've driven since 07 has had it pre installed but not paid for.

Been trucking long?

[deleted]

Is there some other kind?

Being an independent is far too risky

Very small companies are not that different from larger ones

I've worked for 2 truck owner op, small, mid sized and am currently with a huge one

I've never worked union shops, not many of those and you need to know someone and then someone needs to die to get a job there

There's no universal rules with unions.

I had a union driving job, it was a local job shuttling trailers between warehouses, and we had our 8 hours daily pay guaranteed, but we usually only worked 6 (sometime less) and anything over 8 hours we were paid for. Getting paid about 30% more than the rest of the industry at the time.

I was being funny about union jobs, all I was saying is they are difficult to get - should have added because pay and benefits are very good

If you mean have I had other employment that wasn't trucking related, yes

It's all moving to wireless. You can buy unlimited 3g for cheap on ebay. Once 5g or whatever comes out and unlimited 4g is cheap that will be the final nail.
