How long would Opie have a show before Sirius dumps him? Would there be any listeners left?

They'd bring in Florentine. No name change, money saved.

Agree. With Jim's salary and some of Anthony's they could staff a 2nd mike immediately with someone like Florentine who lives nearby and could still do gigs on weekends like Jim. No sweat getting a 2nd guy, even on a rotating basis.

Do you think Sirius wants Jimmy? I don't. They'd be happy for him to leave and take his edging and tranny-fucking with him. They want a friendly show that they can promote as having emmy-award winning writers.m

Sirius never wanted a show like Opie and Anthony and actively hated Ant and Jim. Jim knows he doesn't fit the company's "vision" for the show. Way back when, XM always tried to talk him out of doing the first hour, and Friday shows. They wanted to slowly phase him out instead of giving him the boot to retain the most listeners possible while philosophically gutting the show.
Sirius has always wanted a zoo crew with a thin veneer of prestige and the faint, tantalizing promise of something "naughty" (but only naughty in a way that is safely within in FCC regulations and company guidelines, and won't get them bad press). They want mom-and-pop pablum with a phony edge.
Opie can provide that. Jim will leave, be forced out, fired or have his contract bought off long before they ditch Opie.

XM already talked about getting rid of him. Doubt Sirius feels differently.

They would just hire another comedian and the show would plug along with slightly less "prestige" if you even call what Jimmy brings that.

and the listeners would be ok with that?
2 NoirMagieGateau 2015-05-15
Probably not. It would lead to more bitching and complaining on forums and social media, and the same people who listened after Ant got fired will continue to listen, and complain. A lot of the "haters" are shitty creatures of habit.

If Jimmy got fired they'd respectfully suspend the show in the wake of Jim's immediate suicide. If Jim quit Opie would continue doing a show forever from gum drop rainbow island with his new second mic hortense the unicorn.

Those idiots would probably give him a raise and another day a week off.

When did this subreddit turn into Anthony Cumia fanfic?

He'd have a show forever. Nobody will be listening.
Haven't you figured out yet that you don't need an audience to make millions in the entertainment industry? Christ, do you know how many people in tv and radio would be out of work if their income was based on actual ratings? There would only be like six shows left in existence. And sports.

Everyone keeps talking about what Sirius wants, but what about what the subscribers want - without us there is no Sirius - Do you honestly think the Opie fanboys are a large enough group to keep the channel afloat?

If Stern left they would only lose a marginal amount of business. So I imagine if they scrapped O&J entirely the effect would be negligible for sirius. I assume Opie is able to do what ever shitty show he wants as long as it operates on a minimal budget and is not attracting any negative attention to the company.
1 Crigger540 2015-05-15
I don't disagree, but if that's the case with Stern how have they justified paying him half a billion dollars?
1 K1bbler 2015-05-15
He joined the company at a time of growth and was integral to their success. For a long time he earned his salary. He just got lazy and greedy and came to expect the same salary for less work. Sirius being the spineless assholes they are didn't want to rock the boat just kept giving truckloads of cash.

Yeah - I think internet on our phones was the downfall of satellite radio.

The internet is the downfall of every other form of media.

He would have a show for as long as he wants to have one.
