Wasn't it pretty obvious at the time that they switched Ant's "Half bottle chug" with water to trick E-rock/make him drink more? That is how I remember that part of the show.
He's right, they talk about it on the show after that one and Ant said that he expected the listeners to know that he didn't actually chug half a bottle of tequila.
Pretty sure it was real, at least the early shots and the Erock/Denny ones. Denny got pissed at Erock at one point and threw down his headphones, and Erock maintained his drunk throughout the after show and Ron and Fez.
Plus that entire show had a bizarre party atmosphere which is what made it so great. Nobody really knew what the fuck was going to happen, and you can definitely tell when you hear it.
