I think that the "painting" of Von you referenced stems from the way the fundraising was set up. Whether the thing gets fully funded or doesn't, the money is kept. Intentions may very well be pure, but the execution seems suspect, and is the lone reason I didn't support it with a donation.

I've said that I'll still upload even if nobody donated. Luckily (for me) people have donated and I thank them for it.

I do and I get it. That's why I never asked for donations from the last 4 years. I still will never monetize my channels for that very reason unlike another uploader of O&J. I feel shitty about it. But I'm happy that the work I've put in is appreciated enough by some people to have them donate.
