One thing I don't get about Gail Bennington.

Is how she is so good on the radio without any formal training?
Stern and Opie Stern must be spinning in their ever approaching graves. I mean Stern lost his shit at Ari and Opie reminded us that Ant had no experience when he was hired. He taught Ant everything he knew about the business.
Oh that's right, being on the radio is JUST TALKING. It requires no training what so ever. Gail is better on the radio than Opie because she is a better more interesting person.
Fucking give her and Chris Pepper Stanley the 7 million dollar apartment. No justice no peace.

She has been on the radio since before she was 10. If you listen to the two weeks before they started #Bennington Ron talks about how she used to call in before school on the Ron and Ron show.
They played a clip of her wanting to be a lawyer when she grew up and Ron was telling her that women can't have careers. She played it perfectly.
All I am saying is that she grew up with the best as her father, that was experience enough. Also she was around Ron and Fez all but two years of her life, the time in Washington DC. Something must have rubbed off.

she has personality. that lawyer clip was gold... you wouldn't believe she was that young, but you would believe she was a bennington.
2 Weirdfellas 2015-04-27
Personality? Mingia da kakkitty keekity personalllll-ah.
0 Mitchull 2015-04-27
Alright. You got me on this one. What is it?

Formal radio training teaches people to pump up fake laughter, do radio bits, and say "put" incorrectly. Formally trained radio personalities are boring and fake. The only thing Opie could've gained from his radio training is not burping, sniffing, or scratching his beard into the mic, which is one of the few things he seems to have ignored.

Radio training is a misnomer. It's like taking a comedy class, it can't be taught. You're either interesting on the radio or you're not.
6 honestman69-2 2015-04-27
Honestly it seems like communications training education would prepare you for the vast majority of jobs ie local news bs where "realness" is not at all appreciated.

There are so many podcasts that are way better than anything on the radio for this same reason.

Yep

I know one, but I can't remember what the hell it's called. Like "Great Looking Radio," or some shit like that.

Sam has got to be furious working for siriusXM now. hes finally got his own shitty show after all that time shit stirring and managing interns while a radio legends daughter comes on and naturally kills it a few times, and now has a full-time cohost job.
Eat a dick, sideshow bob

I think formal training may teach you how to work with hardware and how to make transitions between subjects/songs and such, but it doesn't teach you personality or charisma. That's why so many jocks eventually move into management or sales. That's better suited to their abilities. Opie just got lucky when he found Anthony. If not for him, the Opster would be Steve Blatter or Don Wicklin by now.
6 opesterthejokester 2015-04-27
You're right. 20+ years on the radio and Opester is still a stammering, stuttering fool and a hole. Anthony was already talented and just needed some work experience in radio before he got better at it overtime.
4 toofatfor15 2015-04-27
You're kind of right. Then you have NPR, or this American life or serial. They're radio people trained, and it's interesting and great.
Yes, it is just talking, but it's also not being retarded.

She is pleasent, nice, upbeat. Cute laugh. Knows her pop culture. Chimes in well. Doesn't stumble on words. A natural sidekick. But let's not get carried away about her radio skills. I doubt she can fill in as host for even an hour.

Radio has changed. It's become chat about your life and what movies you watched.
No one talks the way they did on the radio 50 years ago. They also don't do soap operas anymore. Doesn't mean just any fucker can do radio.

1 anonimescu 2015-04-27
I listened to one show and found it to be pretty boring and stilted, and worst of alll Ron(who turns everything into radio gold) sounded awkward. Doing radio with your kids is just not going to work out,it's just too much of a personal relationship I don't care how funny/talented they are.
But I agree with you, Opie is a talentless leach.
ps:all you assholes writing op-ed pieces with brand new throw-away accounts, you're not even brave enough to write your opinion you karmawhores. I hope you all get caught dealing child related material to pakistanis
1 CunTits 2015-04-27
Brand new throw away accounts? Who gives a fuck? What are you Jim Norton?
1 bonecrushingkisses 2015-04-27
She's says "literally" a little too much. Other than that, she's great.

Really looking forward to the day when the new show euphoria wears off and you all figure out she's not good on the radio. I realize you have to downvote me now, but when you finally see that they're the Groundhog's Day of radio, remember I said this.
I really wish they would've brought in someone like Big Jay instead.
7 BalladofGailB 2015-04-27
Groundhog Day of radio? And Opie's shitfest isn't?
9 jimcozad 2015-04-27
Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties because it's COOOLD out there
2 drexler57346 2015-04-27
Where we at on the booties? You gotta go booties, right?
1 OpieOpieOpie 2015-04-27
Of course it is. O&J is terrible.
-4 gsbird1065 2015-04-27
Of course O&J is terrible; no one's disputing that.
But nothing, not even a Ron Bennington Vanity Show, is good just because something else isn't.
2 ScoleriBrother 2015-04-27
Thats the tough thing with trying to bring a comedian in for a morning show. Theyre either out of town or theyre a night owl.
2 drexler57346 2015-04-27
She's good with Ron. I was not on board with her initially at all. But give the new version of Bennington (with Chris there) an honest shot and then come back and give your specific complaints. I've come around to the show big time and am actually enjoying it more than Ron and Fez. Gail hasn't been a problem for me at all and I made a thread maybe a month ago about not being into Bennington because I didn't want to hear women on the radio. But this is a fun show.
1 opesterthejokester 2015-04-27
Then listen to TACS. Oh wait, you happen to hate that too and you keep claiming that you're not trying to passively defend Opie. Make up your mind, baby boy.
0 OpieOpieOpie 2015-04-27
Where have I ever said anything other than TACS is better than O&J? And I subscribed early enough to the program that I got a free shirt, Also, "baby boy?" Get fucked, Norton wannabe.
-14 gsbird1065 2015-04-27
Gail Bennington is a garden variety hole.
But try telling that to these idiots. They don't know the difference; they just wait for a consensus to emerge that they can parrot.
Fucking useless sheep.
1 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2015-04-27
Alright, I'll indulge you, because I usually like what you have to say and you're entitled to your opinion. In what way is she a garden variety hole?
-7 glyde69 2015-04-27
Good on the radio?
Opinions....I get it....but she is useless. That new show STINKS.
1 johnmanhattan1 2015-04-27
You are focusing too much on the Gail Bennington thing of what OP was trying to say.
I believe what he was trying to highlight was the fact that someone with a metal pipe sticking out of their head could still do what Opie does.
So yeah give me the "Sky Palace". Ewwwww.
1 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2015-04-27
