Opie isn't the reason the show sucks. Jim Norton is.

As Ant alluded to on his show, Opie's role was always that of the director, which even he was smart enough to understand. This is why he only opened his hole when there wasn't any content coming from the talent (Ant and the comics) and would sit back and do his puzzles otherwise. The loss of Ant was obviously catastrophic and Opie is clearly not creative or talented enough to fill hours of morning radio with funny or interesting content. So why is it that every morning now, we are listening to the hack, inauthentic drivel of this uncreative and untalented guy as he struggles to keep a radio show afloat? It's because that other guy in the room isn't talented or funny either and has effectively done nothing to fill the void created by Ant's departure.
Jim Norton's legacy of cancelled TV shows, comedy special bombs, and being a benchmark for all other comedians to eclipse in terms of fame and success - these things aren't relevant here. His uninformed and uncritical intuitions about news stories and social issues, his inability to understand complexity, his lack of self-awareness - these aren't either. Ant is also a high school dropout and blockhead, but there are important differences. Ant was interesting and creative. He had a quick ascerbic wit and brilliant impressions. He was consistently funny. What's relevant is that Jim Norton is none of these things. Jim Norton - like Opie, unlike Ant - sucks at radio.
In summary, your vitriol is directed at the wrong guy. Hope this helps.

Even if you do have a point here your description of Jim Norton is off base, all tv shows are eventually cancelled and none of the shows he was apart of were because of his contributions specifically. Louie, Inside Amy, Jay Leno and Red Eye are/were all very successful so if you want cite something it cannot be his tv presence. Uncritical, inability to understand complexity and uninformed intuitions are also not true, once again based on his work, he is an author who has made it onto the New York Times Best Sellers list and writes for Time so once again his credentials speak for themselves and discredit your diatribe.
Now for this idea that he is as you say the benchmark for all other comedians to eclipse, his draw on the road is larger than average and the fact that he has had numerous specials produced and in the works speaks to the notion that are not bombs. Finally to say he isn’t creative and lacks self awareness by virtue of his stage act and original characters is simply not true so even if this goofy point was going somewhere its built on falsehoods. Phooey to you.
