Does anyone else remember when Opie basically said the key to a successful radio show is staying out of the way so the funny people could be funny?

It was during either a Louie or Patrice show...he said that if a comedian killed, in the end people will still say that the Opie and Anthony show was great (even if Opie had nothing to do with that). I always found that interesting that Opie had the awareness to say this, yet never follow through on it.

That has been Opie's M.O. for years.

It worked really well. He knew he wasn't funny and he stepped aside.

Occasionally, he played crazy very well. That was entertaining. The screaming at management thing, smashing things, etc.

But then, we realized it wasn't a bit. He was a psychopath with everyone and made working there very uncomfortable.

that's arguably where opie shows self-awareness and is likable. the moment he got cocky enough to think he could be on equal footing with real comedic talent was his downfall.

Opie for sure said that on rogans podcast.

I don't remember him saying that.
