The show is in desperate need of an intelligent person on mic.

Dr. steve was the highlight of the show. The show is in desperate need of an intelligent guy. We all know Ant was hilarious but he was also very intelligent and brought a lot to the show that way.

Yeah Ant's irreplaceable in that regard. Burr, CK, Patrice etc. were all great with social humor, but no one could match Ant's random knowledge.

Soder and Sherrod seem to at least know the pop culture stuff. The "Professor Anthony"-stuff or anything with science or technology...eh I can't think of anyone that could replace that

Anthony is just such a freak of nature that it's impossible to fill his role on the show. I just really have noticed the intellectual void that he left when he was fired. So much of the interesting conversations and topics came from Ant taking the topic and relating it to something else or dissecting the parts of it. That gives Jim a lot of stuff to comment on and make jokes about.

The interviews on the show are so shallow now. Ant may not have been the best interviewer ever but when he wanted to, he was pretty damn good. He had a knack for picking out interesting bits from the persons answers and asking deeper, more interesting questions. Today's show was soooo boring because no one asks any meaningful questions. My favorite part really was Dr. Steve's short science segment.

Patrice was great at finding interesting angles and forcing people to acknowledge things that they were trying to avoid. Can you imagine how the interview with Ilisza shlessinger would have been if Patrice was in studio? She wouldn't have got away with her condescending bullshit. Damn I miss patrice.

Agreed, Opie should do his "could've been a scientist" bit more often.

Anthony is a force of nature, like Hunter S. Thompson, and his over-the-top presence and persona truly made the show work. Certainly, Opie gave it structure and made contributions, and the daily guests made it feel like a proper radio show. But, Anthony's presence (and even lack there of) made the show colorful and exciting because of the daily prospect of devolving into some sort of Anthony-fueled madness. Without a strong force such as that, it's just another radio show.

...of which so many have failed.

I vote for Stephen Hawking(s).

But.... I thought nobody listens?

ant is smart but let's not overplay his intelligence here.... they've never really been an "intelligent" show. hearing them sit down and try to think things out together was always good clean yumah

Intelligent? He has his opinions and he's much more level-headed than Opie or Jimmy when it comes to topics other than race, but I wouldn't go so far as to call the man intelligent.

Watch how fast this comment gets downvoted, lol!

He did seem like he was the best read, best traveled and best informed with the most intellectual curiosity. Even if you don't consider him intelligent, the guy just had a breadth of knowledge about everything.

"Forget Aristotle and fuck Socrates, here comes Pro-fess-or Ant-o-ny."

He also had a computer in front of him, lol!

They all have access to a computer. Opie reads stories all the time and the information is in the story and he still doesn't understand it. It happens to Jim too. Anthony was the one that would be able to understand the topic at hand and explain it to the rest of the room. That's really hard to do unless you have a really good undrstanding of whatever it is you are trying to explain.

Why do you add "lol" on the end of every post? It's not 1995. Are you a Bobo?

I wouldn't say EVERY post, lol!

People think Anthony is 'intelligent' solely because they agree with his views (and we all know what views those are).

He's the Stupid Man's Intellectual.

I'm black and I think he's smart. I was just listening to some clip where he explained why old tvs had a curved screen and my mind was blown and opie and jimmy were just like annoyed/defeated by the whole thing I wish I could find it

I disagree with Ant very strongly on a lot of political issues. It's not his personal opinions or ideology that makes him smart. He understands a lot of different science topics. He's very smart when it comes to how things work.

For a high school dropout, you gotta admit that he fucking knows a lot and that he can add more levity whenever scientific topics are brought up. He also puts Dopie to shame with how much he actually knows and that ass somehow graduated with a degree from SUNY Geneseo.
