It was but in the end it's kind of bullshit. If the guy really did just come in and be super funny and then weasel his non-confrontational ass out of the studio every night, never negotiate his contracts or see something bigger, he would still be doing Long Island radio (if that) and none of us would have ever heard of him. Regardless of which one is less funny and more cringey on the air, he built Opie's house just as much as Opie built his.
Anthony is a Type-B funny man. He stops and smells the roses while he's walking by and makes a joke about them. Opie is a Type-A uptight go-getter. He stands in front of the roses he planted having anxiety while he watches them grow. They didn't get along personally but they made an amazing product together, with the combination of personality that they created on and off air. Anthony dug his own social media grave and his inability to accept that and spite Opie for continuing to stay employed is cringey.
Maybe had Anthony showed more concern or care or enthusiasm for the direction or well-being of the O&A show while he was there, things would've played out differently.
It was on TACS. The episode that the youtube video "Anthony addresses his relationship with Opie" from a few months ago was pulled from, perhaps even during the youtube video itself. I think he might have mentioned it during the O&A Unmasked as well but I'm not sure.
His 'radio gig' would have been stations playing his band's parodies once a week. Ant wasn't even trying to get on air, it was Joe sending the tape in and Opie inviting them to come on air.
Please, enlighten me as to what the "big picture" is.
No, I don't think he would have gotten a radio gig without Opie. He would have been just another parody songwriter who faded into obscurity, but Opie took a chance and it worked out.
It was much easier in the early 1990's to get face time with media executives before the internet became mainstream and every no talent asshole clogged the channels of access sending demos and trying to get attention for themselves online. Ant would have eventually gotten a gig on a radio show. No fucking doubt about it. I personally know how the media climate was back in those days. It might not have been a market like Boston or New York right away, but Ant would have made a name for himself no matter what. I guarantee it.
You must have amazing powers to see the future, mind letting me know next week's megamillions numbers?
Can't argue a hypothetical as if it was fact. Maybe Ant teams with someone else and the result is failure. Fact is Opie has been a douche to those around him, but its also fact that what actually happened was Opie brought Ant aboard and they succeeded.
Couldn't agree more. As someone from Long Island, guys like Anthony were NOT destined to be millionaires. He most likely would still be buying lobster with the gas money his boss allowed. While he didn't exploit it correctly, Opie has found some of the funniest comics of this decade. And if he digs in and gets hungry again, he can do it all over again.
Ant was the lead singer, like Jon from Bon jovi. Maybe the curly headed faggot got everyone together, but in the end you don't have success without Jon. Jim is Richie whos an intergal part but the band goes on without Richie and especially without the curly headed faggot.
I prefer the Metallica analogy. Opie is Lars, and he found Hetfield in Ant and Hammett in Jimmy. Quality guests are like Burton, Newsted and Trujillo. And shit tits is Lars, a guy who has been a mediocre talent his entire life and hasn't artistically progressed in 20 years, hogs the spotlight and takes all the credit because he "put the band together."
Ant has every right to comment on this shit. That human garbage helped pay for that apartment. Without him (and Jim) Spuds Buckley would still be peddling fudgy wudgy bars on the beach.
What I got from Opie's "through your tears" rant was that he believes that it's HIS show and that it always was HIS show. Opie is so good at projecting this that it even had us thinking this.
IT'S NOT HIS SHOW!
He doesn't even acknowledge any more that it was a partnership where Ant and Jim did most of the on air talking and work. In his mind he is like Stern who built a show around him and a ever revolving cast of characters. Except for, nobody tuned in to listen to Opie.
And that sycophant shitdick mongrel played right into his narcissism when he said that it was Opie that fought for their raises etc... Yeah that's why you have an agent..you don't step on his role and undermine his position.
At one point he said that ,before Ant was fired, he was thinking(!) that the show should be split in two and he does mornings, Ant does afternoons.Opie is the one that was ok with managements bid for them to move to the afternoons last year, not Anthony or Jim.
ps:I googled irritable depression and it doesn't appear to be a real disease.
Anybody backing Cumia on this "radio war" is getting called "Cumia Cunts" by Facebook and some on Twitter, so, here's this. (NSFW) http://i.imgur.com/PxOAL1M.jpg
He built it? He can't be serious, he'd still be installing duct work if it wasn't for Opie. I didn't see HooHoo offer him anything after he appeared on his show in the 90s. I'm fully convinced this is happening because Anthony needs subscribers.
Well Opie would still be spinning records at midnight and living in a second floor walk up if it weren't for Ant. You have to admit it at least goes both ways.
What's more valuable, the treasure or the guy who found it?
I agree that Opie would not have been huge with out Anthony, I think Opie agrees as well. As for your question, the person who finds it. Gold can sit at the bottom of the ocean forever, it's worthless till someone finds it.
I'm fully convinced this is happening because Anthony needs subscribers.
He didn't start it. Opie shit on Fez' retirement. Fez said Opie was happy Ant was fired. Opie took some shots at Ant and podcasting. Tweets were exchanged and then Ant spilled all.
Anthony CARRIED Opie. Any audience member, even a child, could have sat beside Anthony with the same results. Delusional egomaniac Opie thinks he's Howard Stern and Anthony was an expendable like Jackie the Jokeman.
And Tits confessed after those appearances that he always let's Ant do the talking...which makes sense cause he's got zero confidence. Except for how he's "awesome at radio"
he'd still be installing duct work if it wasn't for Opie.
Such a dumb fucking point. You can tell it's a dumb fucking point because Opie repeats this and that he "made Jimmy's career" constantly to calm his ego. Opie gave Ant and Jim a platform, they did the rest while Opie rode coattails. Nothing more.
I'd say it was more of a combination of Anthony, Patrice, Jimmy, Bill Burr, and Louie C.K. A kind of barn-raising, if you will.
How much would you pay for a solo Opie show?
How much would anybody pay for a solo Opie show? I cringe just thinking about it. You'd honestly have to pay me at least a few hundred bucks a month to listen to that, and even then I know I'd go through periods of regret.
Nobody can say Opie has talent, or that Anthony doesn't. The most you could say is that Opie has an eye for talent, but I think it's more a case that he sees when people are laughing at someone, and says to himself "this guy must be good".
you can't seriously believe that, with the way ant and joe were canvassing the world for a break, that somebody eventually wouldn't have picked up ant for a radio gig or something else that's better than hvac? it just happened to opie, who was in need. but the reason why opie did it was for the same reason that anybody in his place would have, the talent was apparent and the potential payout was enormous.
Honestly who cares if he's doing it for subs? It's clear with the Ron b talk that # of subs played into his thinking of whether to come. It's not like this is fake drama.... It's just drama he's allowing to come out. If that leads to more subs which then leads to the ability to acquire more talent, then good.
Starting to sink in that he's now a podcaster like Jenna Marbles or something.
Starts YouTubing for free while shitting on a guy he hasn't been friends with for 15+ years for not dropping everything to be with him when he got himself fired.
The whole point of what Anthony has been saying is that their friendship, or lack thereof, has nothing to do with it. Opie did not do the right thing as a business partner and let the brand die. And now the customers of that brand are pissed at him.
Did Anthony do the right thing as a business partner by going on Twitter and getting himself fired?
Anthony loves Twitter and now here it seems for the same reason, because it strokes his fragile ego to have nobodies fawning all over him. Problem is he doesn't get that behind the keyboards nobody really gives a fuck regardless of what they say.
Most things that Ant and Keith have done in the past month or so, maybe longer, are because they've been getting hit with the harsh reality that the subscription base ain't growing. At all. In fact I bet it's considerably less since the launch. I know I canceled and I personally know two other people who have canceled as well. Going by his twitter followers and reddit subs I can't imagine he has anywhere near what his ass licking fans claimed months back. Costs of paying a staff, bandwidth and equipment, combined with the meager ad money from KTL and Mangrate, I just don't buy TACS being a success right now. Ronnie was a hail mary play and it backfired. The NYC studio is the next hail mary play and this one will actually cost him considerably if it fails. This whole "radio war" is Ant getting desperate and needing to drum up chatter about himself.
Nah. I hate Opie tbh. I'd much rather listen to Ant. I just have my head on straight about things which to you fan boys is taken as being anti-Ant for some strange reason.
It's not some "radio war" or some wacky way to get publicity. Fans want to hear the truth about what went on behind the scenes and Ant is just being honest.
But because of the pay wall, he doesn't need as high of numbers to make as much money. Instead of getting increased money from advertisers (to reach more people), he's getting money directly from the listeners. I'm not sure what the breakeven point is as far as listeners vs ad dollars, but it's probably pretty telling that this is his only gig whereas most of the major podcasters have about five other jobs (where the added value to their podcasts is to promote their stand up gigs/movies).
So what if it is? How do you think they drummed up talk about the OandA show in the past?
When they came to XM they had a my a few hundred listeners. Maybe if that cunt Opie would plug TACS far more often, he would have a larger base. But he hasn't, he's a butthurt faggot crying on the air about not having a friendship. He owed it to Anthony to fight for his job, and he did not. He owed it to Anthony to promote TACS, but he didn't. Opie would be nothing without Anthony pulling the entire weight of the show with his humor, and OpieRadio would not exist. It exists now with so many listeners because it is leftover fans.
May you please explain how the Ronnie thing backfired? I'm not challenging you. I don't know what the Ronnie thing is. Is or isn't Ron B going to join Ant? And if not how did that backfire or hurt Ant?

It's an antiquated model. Ant better hope that he can maintain that core base of his obsessive fans because his show isn't growing much beyond that.
