Irritable depression is not a real diagnosis.

Or is it a subtype? I know the DSM went through an overhaul, but I don't remember seeing it.

His doctor was calling him an asshole using medical terminology. Irritability is a very common sign and symptom of depression, but it's not a discrete diagnosis. His irritability is more likely the result of anything or anyone challenging his carefully constructed reality that he's on the same level as Stern.

I forget which comic it was, but on O&A, he refereed to "fibromyalga" as "whinypants disease". Seems apropos.

It's basically a polite medical way of telling somebody that they throw tantrums like a child when things aren't going well for them.

Idiot, he misspoke. He meant irritable Bowel syndrome.

Opie is irritable bowel syndrome!

No, this diagnosis does not exist.

I tried to find it. I looked it up, per his instructions. Damn his rabbit trails.

Major Depressive Disorder can have the following specifiers: mild, moderate, severe, with psychotic features, in partial remission, in full remission, with anxious distress, with mixed features, with melancholic features, with atypical features (like leaden paralysis), with mood-congruent psychotic features, with mood-incongruent psychotic features, with catatonia, with peripartum onset and lastly and most commonly, with seasonal pattern.

I looked it up right when he said it, seems like it's a thing. But I'd never heard of it.
