One time they were talking about Musicals and Jimmy went into Uncle Paul because they were talking about Annie Jr. Someone then asked Uncle Paul what his favorite musical was and Opie shot out "Hairless" which made Jimmy do that wheezing laugh.
The only time I can remember Opie making the room laugh in the past 5 years was when they went to the news feed on a studio tv and after the story they were discussing was over the newscaster continues on with "and our next story brings us to...." and Opie responds to the tv "OH GO FUCK YOURSELF"
He repeated the line 3 or 4 more times and killed it.
Notice how the funny people are contributing humor, one upping each other and enjoying the moment while embarrassment in a swimming pool reflects on his emotions like a housewife named barb with a beer gunt.
All I can hear is how Opie either adds nothing or actively detracts from all of these clips. It's either him or some idiot caller he put on getting in the way of the funny.
Listening to this is genuinely depressing. Fuck do I miss Ant and Jim hangin' out. Their comedy was built for one another, it's fucking tragic that it took that comedic-cancer Opie to bring them together.
I remember the days where I used to have to pause the show and collect myself so I wasn't crying laughing like an idiot in my cubicle in case someone walked in.
Nothing against Ant, but my favorite thing about him is when he sits back and waits on his joke. I think that's my issue with TACS, he takes the lead and is constantly talking on the topics without a real chance to snipe off these excellent one liners. He's at his best when teamed with someone else.
