I agree. But I want to point out that I especially loved the Patrice shows where he was in studio with Norton, rather than in his place. Ant and Patrice carried the conversation mostly, but Norton always did what he does best - dropping hilarious lines here and there that would always send Patrice into his infectious, wheezy laughter.
I was just listening to a show today where Patrice is talking about loving animals and hating that Sarah McLachlan commercial about the abused animals, and it's a mix of funny and sad, but of course Jimmy turns it into straight up hilarious:
"Yeah but you don't know what these animals did to bother the owner"
"I love animals but I will punch a kitten squarely in the middle of its face"
It was crazy how different they are: as people from two completely different walks of life, and two completely different outlooks on many issues but because they both respected each others honesty and MAINLY they are both remarkably funny they were friends and gave us the pinnacle of O&A. I don't think they were able to fully express it, but by the way they spoke with one another you could sense the mutual admiration. On the Remembering Patrice Episode when Ant (Who never cries) moved away from the mic and sniffed that's where it really hit home about how close they were -- if not for a few hours every morning.
They weren't as different as you're making them out to be. They were born less than 200 miles away from each other. Ant spent a few years in horse country, but he's a Long Islander. He's not some fundie from the midwest or the south or something.
I was just listening to an old clip of Patrice right when Jill and Anthony broke up. He totally inspired Ant's current lifestyle.
"You give girls titles too quickly. You've never womanized in your life. Objectifying women is part of our existence. You can't just keep pretending you love them."
I actually got sadder at seeing Steve. I think it's because Patrice has already achieved God status in my eyes, whereas Steve just seemed like a nice guy who was always struggling.
I miss them both a ton, but the fact that Steve's death was a suicide makes it more sad for me. I loved Steve's contributions to the show as I'm sure many others did. I think Patrice got a lot of joy out of his life. It's really sad to think that Steve didn't.
Imagine an alternate universe where Patrice never died and ended up being Anthony's co-host (whether he agreed/disagreed with Anthony for the rant or not)
That show would be incredible philosophically, but it would be so brilliant it's actually mentally exhausting.
No he didn't. They weren't as good friends as Patrice and Ant, but Patrice didn't hate Opie you dimwitted fuck. Stop projecting. If Patrice didn't like Opie, we would have known very loudly and clear. That's the kind of person he was.
The producers said in an interview that the fundraising goal wouldn't even cover half of it. They made it flexible funding because they probably expected to blow right past their goal after the famous "Opie bump". Good luck claiming those perks people
That isnt what I meant. The fundraising goal/target ($125k) won't even cover half of the costs of the doc - according to the producers. The "Opie bump" is not money he's kicking in, its the viral support that his 350k twitter supporters and millions of listeners will deliver.
Which makes it even worse for the old opester. Like Larry King said when he delivered his mushroom-stamping "if you say you have clout, you dont have clout"
I don't necessarily agree that Patrice hated him. I think he liked him less than Ant and Jim, but I just think he always had such a blast on the show that he never could've had any hatred towards Opie.
That being said, it's fucking despicable how much Opie brings down some of the Patrice shows. From his hack jokes and comments sprinkled throughout to him wasting shows where Patrice is on by forcing them to listen to segments of The View when they could be having a much more interesting conversation. The latter is the biggest offense. Patrice destroys in every show he's on, and his dialogue with Ant (and Jim when he's in) is always just fantastic. So it's just upsetting that so many shows are spent with Patrice having to sit there idly while he listens to whatever lame "bit" Opie is trying to sell that day instead.
These comments are kind of nice though, especially for this sub, so I feel kind of bad spewing my Opie hatred here.

This was the peak of the show. Ant and Patrice. End of discussion.

Yeah I've listened to every Patrice appearance and he never once said he hated opie. He did fight with him from time to time but he didn't hate him.

Seeing as it looks like Opie is going to end up paying for like a quarter of it, I doubt it will make it past the cutting room.

Opie said he would cover the difference if they didn't reach the target amount. If they blow past their goal he's not obligated to bump anything.
