What is with all the Sherrod Small hate?

4  2015-03-21 by [deleted]

I'm listening to O&J for the first time since Janurary and it's the one without Jim, and I dunno, I don't see what the problem is. Sherrod seems funny enough. I mean of course he's no Patrice. Or Vos, or Jimmy or Collin or Burr etc etc... but he doesn't seem awful like, say, Derosa.

To be fair I haven't listened in a long time, and I know they've had him on a lot. Is it bitterness because he is the best the new show can do? I get it that the new show isn't that good, I just don't listen to it.

The hate of Sherrod is not about Sherrod himself, but the uncanny power of Opie to make people less likable by overusing them and bringing out the worst in them. He did it to Florentine. It's more about how Opie is some sort of nightmare genie man who can flip the script on your own wishes and turn them into curses.

Ah yes, as someone here once put it, Opie's the world's worst alchemist, turning gold into shit.

He has the exact opposite of the Midas Touch. He can turn Richard Pryor into a dumpster full of baby shit.

You can almost hear florentine silently saying "are you fucking serious Op, this again?"

He loves to shoe horn racist bullshit

Sherrod "shoehorn? What cause I'm black I gotta shine your shoes?"

People keep saying he's annoying because he doesn't say enough funny things. I haven't heard him say anything particularly annoying though.

He's given Opie a few pity laughs, but which comic hasn't? Especially new-ish ones. Even Dipaolo did that for the first few years.

O&A was a show with claws, O&J is neutered. If Sherrod came on during old school O&A, it would be Ant, Jim, Sherrod and maybe Vos, Bawby ect. The jokes would start flying, and the first one to bomb became the next prey. It was a wonderful format.
Now, since the host hasn't landed a joke in 20 years, there's not much of a competition to be as funny as you can. It's not that he's not funny, he may or may not be, it's just that we're used to expecting such high standards. And rightfully so.

Or the host just repeats your current material on the air.

And there is that mutant sitting near you, looking weird and trying to chime in with lines that are absolutely worthless.

It's like people want him to be Sherrod Large or sumptin'!

I'll start by saying that I like Sherrod and haven't listened to him on the show. I have seen his many Red Eye appearances and he is just one of those guys that talks over people and won't shut up. Pick your spots, don't make it all about you.

It used to be hard to do this show when it was bigger and on terrestrial. Getting 30 minutes of time was an opportunity and you had to deliver or you were not coming back. How many times have duds like Colin Kane and Ralphie May done this show? 5 times in the past 5 years or more?

Sherrod Small was given third mic for a full week and he did nothing with it. I can't give you 10 funny or interesting lines.

He had his chance and blew it but Opie thinks he did a good job and he will be the next Florentine guy here. Florentine Effect! First 5 appearances you don't understand why people dislike him, appearance number 20 and you want to set him on fire.

I dont really like black humor. Patrice for some reason was a exception for me. I think because Patrice knew so much about white culture

EVERY COMIC ON THE SHOW WILL. GET. TRASHED.

The show has become toxic. This is just the fact of the matter. It only drums up bad publicity now.

seems funny enough

Found the problem.

He's jolly enough presence, but he doesn't add much mirth.

Opie is an EMP of the studio.

Sherrod is funny, but kind of exhausting to listen to.

I don't hate him but he was in all week and I can't remember one thing he said. I did turn it off within minutes a couple times though.

All I can remember is his embarrassing fanboy behavior when DMC was in studio. He doesn't bother me as a guest at all but I think you hit the nail on the head.

People aren't even listening at this point, they're just reflexively bitching about the show no matter what happens.

He's not great. Race wars is one of the best podcasts out there despite him mostly doing the corny hack black guy stuff.

Dont listen to the onj dumpster fire....... but he stinks on redeye, he uses race, stereotypes, trying to put words in other people's mouths, to shut some of the other commentators down......he was pretty hard on the dude with Pauly walnut wings (not anthony) the other day.

ya known Opie and Anthony would do a reset clock every time someone apologized in the media we should do that every time Sherrod does a race joke it the first thing out of his mouth every episode

OMG im getting sick and tired of opies pitty laugh its so easy to tell when he finds something funny and when hes just helping someones crap joke

Sherrod has also been on the show 3 out of 4 days this week and hes SLOWING the show down like you can only go down one road with him because if its not racial he doesn't participate or push the convo forward

I hate Sherrod Small because he's not funny at all, yet stomps all over the very funny Kurt Metzger on Race Wars. Also, he physically attacked another comic because he didn't like something he said. Furthermore, I hate anyone who rides the coattails of a successful relative (see: Joseph Cumia). I was baffled Sherrod had any success at all, and then I found out his cousin is none other than Chris Rock.

I find the stuff he says on race wars hilarious... Gland sandwiches, cummon... I don't think anyone can stomp on Kurt, hes just too much of a strong personality. He used to hang with all those guys, Patrice Hart, Robinson, not sure about vos or Kelly, but either way I dont think he's riding rock at all. He barely mentions rock and if he does, I'd give it a pass since it is family and he has his own success. I think he bounces off of ant and Jimmy and Kurt a lot better than Op and was just making the best of a boring situation with Op. Even Patrice and Jimmy and anyone else gets deflated by Op, buy Patrice would call anyone out, didn't give a fuck hence his bridge burning status.

Just because he never mentions Chris Rock, doesn't mean their blood relationship hasn't helped Sherrod. My impression is that he avoids mentioning it so he can't be accused of milking it. But that doesn't mean he hasn't milked it behind the scenes. Having Chris Rock introduce you to who you need to be introduced to (agents, club owners, tv people etc) certainly gives you a leg up.

If he was really funny, I wouldn't care. In fact I'd think, "Wow, good thing this Sherrod guy had an in, otherwise maybe I'd never hear of this genius!" But he's not really funny. He's as funny as the funny guy in an office.

I have seen a few red eye clips, and maybe one or two stand up clipbs so I cant really go off of that. Im going off of what Ive heard on the podcast and when Ive heard him with comics. Going back and forth with Kurt, Ant, Godfrey, or any other comic, hes a quick as anyone. I've never heard of him before Jimmys Vice show. Id rather listen to him than Benson or even Florentine who is too cool for anything. He did good with Op on Friday, probably because he was able to hang with Vic, but if it was just Sherrod and Op, that's too painful to even think about. Op should really get Big Jay in or Joe List, or even Norm. They're all great comics, but it seems like he might have dropped the ball with the Skank crew.

Info on the physical attack

I think part of it might be due to the fact he supports the blacks get it rough agenda. Right or wrong (wrong) the old fans don't support this theory.

Hes fine for those Best Week Ever type shows and even morning zoo radio which is basically what the show has become. Most of us here how ever remember what the show once was and prefer funny/edgy/quick/add something to the show type of humor.

Oh and hes black.

These guys are faggots, you can't take anything they say seriously. They were brutally raped by Opie. That's where the hatred comes from.
