I don't harbor the hate for Opie many of you do, but...

I always have found it annoying how important it is (or was) for him to be recognized for his accomplishments in radio. Anthony seemed happy enough coming to work, being funny and cashing fat paychecks, but being a star is a little too important to Opie and it shows.

I realized opies obsession with fame when he started attempting to get a viral hit.

Does Opie know if he left when ant was fired he would have been known as a radio legend, but instead his fans have turned on him and he's going to be known for his last 2 shitty years in radio.

What about his fat lady sidekick? It's like Laurel and Hardy with tits

I can never be mad at Jimmy, he's given me too many hours of laughter over the years. I understand a lot of the hate for him re-signing the 2 year contract, but I feel bad for him now.

It's funny that you thought the fat lady sidekick was a reference to Jimmy ha.

Haha oh shit I meant that beluga from his YouTube videos.

Opie always came off as, "The fans are so lucky I decided to do radio. I could have been a major success as X."

He wasn't a mega talent that was just waiting for an opportunity. He was a middling DJ that got lucky.

That doesn't stop him from browbeating others into accepting his "greatness" in radio. A few weeks ago, he smashed intern Adrian for his lack of radio skills by repeatedly saying, " I have done this since I was 18...I'll tell you how to make a successful radio show...this is what the people want to hear... you don't know what you're doing."

Let's say Opie is 50-55. He didn't become a success until WNEW - 17 years ago. That would make him ~38 when fame/fortune came.

If he started radio at 18, it took him 20 years to learn the business well enough to succeed. Not exactly "prodigy" status.

I think you hit on an interesting point here...
I think he'd be fairly good at any business that has a lot of politics involved. His strongest quality may be business tenacity. As much as I hate the fucker, it's hard to deny that his negotiation tactics in the early days of O&A helped their career.
He would be one of those guys who works his way up in the company by backstabbing others, and propping himself up as something larger.
If you've ever worked in business this is 80% of why and how people get promoted. Talking yourself up, and having no loyalty or sympathy.

He's not bright enough to have figured it out himself. I'm guessing regular advice calls from Wease, who might be a liberal hack, but doesn't seem nearly as unintelligent as Slotho.

Or possibly one of his brothers. You can't run a restaurant and be a total fuck up at business, I don't think.

much as I hate to say it, you're completely and totally right

The numbers speak for themselves!

Exactly. Opie's self absorbed, pretentious, shallow mind is very obvious and the reason he will never be liked or thought of as a good broadcaster or person. And it's also another reason he hates Ant. He wants to have Ants sincere, honest, loyal and much more likable personality traits. But he knows he never will.

Yes that's the first thought of many. Give it a few months, that hate will grow.

I bet he got a pedicure with the girls too, and that silly shit with cucumbers over his eyes. Did he blow the guy handing out towels outside the steam room?

What a fucking emasculated faggot. Is this his audition tape for "The View"?

Ron and fez replays on YouTube my friend. The weirdness and chaos will heal your opie wounds.

Can you give us an example? I just can't get into R&F but I want to somehow

Its a weird show to jump into blind. The little nuances are what make it great. Ronnie b is a genius. Fez is a train wreck that is cringy and locked up and can't talk half the time. When he does its angry talk about gay issues or wrestling. Chris Stanley AKA pepper hicks is the self destructive alcoholic producer. Shelby is weird and sad. I recently went back and listened to some old shows. 10-1-14's episode is a good start.

Gregg "We" Hughes

No Opie, "We" aren't funny. That's not what "We" do. It's me and a handful of comedians that do all the work and make you look good you fucking torpid shit eating sloth. Go pick on another intern so you can feed your awful shitty inferiority complex you waste of space mooch

Once again it was solely the titster that was the problem. Replace him with a non-douche, or just get rid of him entirely, and that toxic cutthroat environment where there's someone in the barrel at all times is perfect.

Who are you?

His feeble attempts at trying to be funny on that shit tbs show and being delusional about it was one of the biggest signs of Gregg's narcissism. he's always wanted to skip past the radio and be a TV star but is frustrated because he knows he's a fucking hack.

Deep down, during the O&A days, he knew he was a vestigial organ on something evolving to be a lot better than a dumb northeastern shock jock horseshit show that had naked women writhing in shit and couples fucking in churches.

It was turning into uncensored, free-form "Tough Crowd" on the radio. You just turned it on and there it was. Probably the best fucking shit I ever listened to without downloading from 2006-2011. But he always had to fucking justify his position, and he always had to fucking get a word in.

He really, at his best, didn't bring much to the show, but he wanted to be treated like he WAS the show. It's the most hateable thing about him. He was an unfunny guy who wanted to be treated like a funny guy, when some of the funniest people in the country around him, people who made their living off humor, had to talk around him and kiss his dumb pasty ass.

I don't blame him for wanting to justify his own existence I guess. I guess nobody really can. But it sure didn't make the show more listenable.

And once you picked up on how much of a shitty douche he was, how everyone else got ribbed but him, how Erock and Steve had like listener contests to make fun of them for being fat/gay/incompetent (even when they weren't) but he couldn't as much handle a sideways remark without getting pissy like a teenage girl....

Yeah, once you picked that up, it poisoned the show.

So, to type the shit I've typed a billion times on this sub, again:

Opie did not help the show during the time I listened. He was not funny and actively hindered comedic content with his contributions. He was not knowledgeable on anything but the most inane pop culture horseshit that housewives and gay hairdressers watch. He was obsessed with the fame of others and his own star. He was not likeable. He was not funny. He was not entertaining and did not and does not deserve the paycheck of an entertainer.

He stinks, and I do not like him.

Too bad Opie is not a star and dying a horrid death.

All the self hype at this point is him trying to keep his wife, so he does not end up living in an apartment with rats in Hoboken, while she enjoys that $7 mil apartment, and most of his bank account.

Its funny because in WNEW days they played it off as "this rinky dink little local show" and Opie even claimed numerous times that it "wasn't their goal to make it". So douchey when the fans even then had trouble swallowing that one.

It's not that bad a strategy to gain popularity by pretending to be anti-mainstream rebels. It's actually a good one. Problem is he was the one steering the s.s. Maaahhn. And there isn't anything he can do that isn't enragingly douchey, and that was no exception.
