Anthony did the sensible thing with the LFTC show: he realized that their history proved that they were always on the cusp of being kicked out and their careers weren't as guaranteed as they may have thought. He came up with a plan B, for whatever it was worth.
Opie, over all those years, after all those controversies and firings and close calls, never developed a plan B. He never had the business sense or fucking intellectual curiosity to seek out another revenue stream. He never had FU money, he had a nest egg. A nest egg to last him until the next thing, but he never had a next thing.
He's trying to do it now, trying to develop himself as a legitimate personality and viral content creator. And he stinks at it. He's becoming an entrepreneur too late in the game and now he's just an old man with money who can only hope to throw it at younger, smarter people to do the work for him.

He did, he just sucked at it. All the stupid catch phrases, tee shirt ideas, embarrassing attempts to make a viral video with that fat chick. Those were all attempts to build a plan b and another revenue stream, they just all failed like a giant shart.

No one is denying the fact that there is a necessity to keep the show on track, and that he was fulfilling that need.
It is his inability to recognize the fact that he is a tremendous tool that is so bothersome. Anthony, jim, and regulars always knew not to attempt to trash Opie because HE CANNOT TAKE IT.
That caller did a poor job of explaining himself - but what he was getting at is the fact that Opie equates cruelty with humor. This works sometimes, however He is unable to recognize the subtlety that makes something cruel funny.
His arrogance is also unparalleled. There is nothing worse than listening to him repeatedly call Rich Vos or Bob Kelly a dummy on the old shows.
I cannot fucking stand listening to jim's incoherent groveling. Ant and jim both sounded as though they were desperately attempting to defuse the situation not because they believed what they were saying, but because they knew Opie would pout for the rest of the show unless they tried to prove that they really believed Opie added comedic value to the show. Ugh so fucking uncomfortable. Jim especially made me cringe.

Y'all realize they screened this call right? I understand that opie acts like a giant faggot.... very very often, like in this clip to be sure. I get the Opie hate, though I get annoyed when y'all think you know how Jimmy and Ant must think too. They weren't grovelling, they actually like Opie. They know him a lot better than any of you do, so I don't understand why people here think they know Opie better than them when most of you probably have never even seen his jellytits.
