He was on to promote his documentary Religulous that came out in 2008.

He turned down the show for Religulous I believe. I think this is a big reason why the guys don't like him. In this clip Opie is introducing a clip of Maher vs Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Bobby says he is surprised that Opie doesn't like Maher because Maher is a fan of the show and Opie responds with "Then why didn't he come do our show for Religulous?"
