He wanted something like 10 grand a year for 60 shows and they passed. They were giving ESD and are currently giving Dr. Steve about 100 dollars a show.
They could have literally owned the podcasting industry for like 10 million dollars a year if they just offered a few hundred grand for simulcasting of the biggest shows. Meanwhile, they back up dump trucks full of money for people like Oprah, Martha Stewart, Eminem and Howard Stern.
They are mongoloids. SXM is a Jewish slush fund and stock market crime pretending to be an entertainment industry.
You forgot to add the Torpid Sloth to that lineup. The company loves his talent and threw money at his ample tits. What fell to the ground, Jimmy ran and picked up.
When podcasting started, I remember being so surprised that all these comics would be willing to do a show for like no money and the hosts on the comedy channels on satellite are like, "Mark Says Hi". Once WTF & Carolla & Rogan and whoever else started podcasts they should've bought them all up and have them exclusively. They completely fucked up
Yeah you're right man...I mean that show Opie built didn't get many more listeners than Cult of Black Phillip and every other "friend of the show" show put together, right?
siriusxm is going to fail anyways. they fudge subscriber numbers by including unsold cars and free trials, that's why they consistently grow. Glad that TACS is gonna pick them up
It's only a matter of time until the average rube realizes the satellite radio that came with their car is unnecessary because they can get all of the same shit through their speakers with the internet and apps on their devices. SiriusXM pumping up their numbers with automatic new vehicle subscriptions is solely to inflate their stock value. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were doing this to sell off the company to some foolish media corporation. I would like to think the higher ups aren't totally retarded and think they can sustain this business model.
Imagine a world where we can drive around and listen to exactly what we want, or something new that we've never heard with zero bullshit, minimal censorship, and we don't miss a fucking thing.
Oh wait...that world exists. Yeah both terrestrial and satellite radio are fucked as the technology becomes more integrated.
Didn't Liberty Media make a big play a year or so ago? Either way, they don't have a stable of new talent and instead drop tons of cash on buying established brand names for their channels, which really doesn't add value. It's not sustainable, considering pandora/spotify/etc and free podcasts.
Unfortunately the only reason I still have SiriusXM is for the music channels on the road (I travel from NJ to MD/VA on business frequently), as I am already paying way too much for 2GB of cell data and if I used Spotify or Pandora it would cost me more than a monthly SXM bill. If Verizon still had unlimited data there is no way I'd have SXM, Tits and The Worm are not worth it.
This is exactly the reason sirius will go out of business. Corporations not willing to protect their employees rights or pay the people with exceptional talent. Why give em a good paycheck when you can get dennis falcone in for free or sam roberts for 35k? Their greed will be there downfall.
Big Jay is very funny. There are tall guys who can dunk basketballs. And folks good at math who are accountants. Fast talkers are good politicians. Big guys can dig deep ditches.
What is your point here? What - that makes them money and isn't irreplaceable - does Sirius not have a clue about?
How lucky are Jim and Opie? They already made a lot and got even more when they re-signed but yet they can't pay actually funny guys like Soder and Big Jay fucking peanuts? SiriusXM is retarded.
Its a fucking joke. If we can relate this back to O&A&J, Big Jay was not in with them enough. Some of the other bums they have had in that studio regularly weren't fit to lace Jay's boots. Iliza Shlesinger etc-Jesus Christ
He was an O&A fan and really tried to become one of their guys first. I remember during one of the shows a day or two after Patrice died Big Jay called in to talk about him and said something to the effect of, "it sucks that it takes Patrice dying for you guys to actually have me on your show."
Last time he was in, he straight up said to Opie "Man, I wish I could be on more." and Opie said that he just "fell through the cracks" and he hasn't been on since.
Legion of Skanks will be Live at the Compund tommorow w/ Ant at 6:30. Have to think it will get brought up. They went over some of it with Bonnie last week on LOS
He got fooled by Ant's house and wealth. When Jay was on TACS and when Ant was on LOS, Jay kept saying "Every time I look at your house, it makes me hope that this Sirius deal with Soder goes through." I could tell Ant didn't have the heart to tell him he made most of his bones on FM.
Ant also made his value / worth coming INTO XM a lot higher initially so he had more financial momentum. It's not like they walked in as unknowns. O&A came in like Eminem and Jay would be on the pay grade of an Obie Trice or Proof starting a show.
Other than maybe Norm and CQ, I don't think there's a better comic than Jay right now. He's truly amazing and it's such a goddamn shame that he's not connecting with more people. As much as I like Soder, their roles should be reversed right now going purely on talent. He needs to do a Todd Barry kind of crowdwork special, except his would be much better.
by both his own and jay's assertions, very much so. their show together was originally just gonna be called the soder show, with jay an unnamed in the title sidekick who would've still done just as much talking. soder had to demand jay be a bigger part of it. and soder is the one with all the negotiating power, jay and his people were both willing to do satellite for completely shit money. soder's people are the ones demanding something respectable from that trainwreck of a company. and they were offered so little, jay is not even remotely mad about him wanting more.
If the legal monopoly Sirius XM has on satellite radio is ever broken, they'll get fucked by the competition in weeks. It's so obvious no one in management has any real interest in radio and it's enraging.
Thanks to improving mobile technology. Old mediums of entertainment like newspaper, magazines and radio are dying. No one is going to buy Sirius XM it's a money pit.
It's in a weird spot, where it was high tech when it was launched but now it's superseded by other shit. It's like betamax, but the satellites are always gonna be up there, so they might as well use em.
Really, why WOULD anyone want to compete in the satellite radio market? Soon wifi will be standard in cars as well as Android ran head units, and then it's game on for developers. Fuck spending millions (billions?) to fire satellites up in the air and maintain all that infrastructure. It was a good idea in the past, but now it's fairly outdated. If my car came with it and had a free subscription for a year, fine, but I have literally dozens of other ways to stream content to my car, and SiriusXM provides only a couple people who provide content you can't find anywhere else.
no offense but these dummies need to stop listening to Opies pipe dream comments of whats possible and stop "getting them in touch with management" because THEY ALL get offered shit and unless their ONLY other option is watching old fucks die, they arern't going to bite.
STOP THINKING SIRIUSXM IS EVER A GOOD OPTION FINANCIALLY!
It was more about the industry in general. I imagine being a highly praised "comic's comic" for over 10 years without seeing any real significant financial success can be frustrating. Big Jay's hilarious and so many unfunny faggots and cunts get projects done and get on TV, get put in movies, sell-out theaters, etc.
The best comics are bitter toward the industry because they were/are too good for the industry.
I'll tell you exactly what was going through his head when he said that. He was worried that the SJW crowd / his SJW buddies would have bitched him out if he let him "get away" with saying it and not confront him about it. Super fucking annoying.
The few shows Jay and Soder did were great and I was looking forward to hearing it again, glad to see SXM is making all the wrong decisions again. It's obvious they don't see the internet as competition making them just as dumb as terrestrial back when satellite was picking up
Sirius is horrible, but the blame for the low pay of Dr. Steve, ESD and i guess Big Jay also goes to the boys. The torpid sloth, in particular, gets paid big bucks for doing little work and having no talent. Surely he feels guilty enough about his unearned wealth to give some of these guys a "little taste", but Opie is alleged to be a miser.

Sirius knows talent. Slotho can afford to buy a $7 million apartment yet they wouldn't pay Patrice.

What a great fucking guy and an amazing talent.
I know this sub tends to love blood in the water, and I think it's incredibly telling how supportive the responses have been.

what...the...fuck...?
Seriously? It's 2015. NOBODY makes money in radio anymore. All the bigger players are grandfathered in...if they're even still around.
What...did Big Jay go home and start imagining SUVs, hookers, and a brand new home for mom? How could your hopes be up that high that you're in tears?
Radio isn't radio anymore. I don't know what he was thinking...

There are a lot of things you can blame them for, but I seriously doubt they have any say over how much Sirius pays any of the talent.
1 NotInsane 2015-03-09
You misunderstand. If Sirius won't pay, the boys should have opened their fat wallets.
2 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2015-03-09
I admit that it's more nuanced than this, but I don't think it's their responsibility to pay them out of their own pocket.
1 NerdConvention 2015-03-09
